Middletown had a great season. They matched their 14 wins from 2016 and are headed to the post season as a #4 seed. Middletown takes on the winner of the Hodgson/Smyrna matchup earlier in the day. Mtown played both at the end of the season. In the game against Smyrna, Mtown scored three runs in the top of the first and good pitching by Keane, Loper and Netsch kept Smyrna at bay, Mtown won 3-2. Mtown got smacked around by Hodgson in their last game of the season losing 13-5. Hodgson got 16 hits.
Hodgson started the season with a win over DMA, but then a 9-0 loss to Cape. Then they went on a 5 game tear beating Newark, CR, Concord, MtP and Delcastle by a combined score of 52-8. Then came a head to head with undefeated Appo. Mtown won 5-4 but came back with an odd 18-10 win over St G. The next game they had to battle back from down 7-2 to a weak Wm Penn team, to win 8-7. They come back and crush Sussex Tech 11-0, but then allow Glasgow to score 5 runs in the seventh to walk off with a win. They blow out Charter and Friends next. Then beat Smyrna and A.I. They geared up with their battle with top ranked Conrad, but lost than one 10-6 and then get beat up by Hodsgon to finish the season. Mtown was 5-3 against other playoff teams this year. On average, Mtown is scoring almost 9 runs per game and allowing almost 5 runs per game. Keane has done a good job taking over as leader on the mound going 4-1. At the plate Mtown has hit 8 dingers, including 3 by Walls. Mtown has been to 23 previous post season tourneys and their record is 23-23 ironically. That's the ninth most games played in the post season in State history. Mtown went to the semi finals last season getting beat 11-1 by Caravel. That was their first post season appearance since 2010.
