So now that the season is winding down....Who will make All-State? 1st team, 2nd team
We know there will be a few repeaters...Frebott (Sallies)...deserving
Possible newcomer Martin (Sallies..not a selection in the past)
Kern (Sallies...kind of on the fence)...good goalie...BUT good D in front, makes saves he should be.

What Sallies games have you been seen that show Kern only makes the saves he should be making? Kern is far and away the best goalie in the state. 12 saves vs. Malvern (number 4 nationally per Laxpower), 14 saves against Chatham, and a 17-save performance against St. Ignatius, as well as scoring a goal against CR to really open the floodgates. Beyond saves, you're not going to find a better goalie on clears. Having a good defense shouldn't count against him. Goalies should go Kern, Manges from St. Marks, and Gillan from Cape.

Defensively, Freibott and McQuaide from Dover should be locks for first team, with one of Freeborn, Lyons, or Sheehan rounding out the third spot.

At attack, you're looking at Kelly and Martin from Sallies, along with Pettit from Tower Hill.

At Midfield, I think it's going to be Drake from Sallies, Schaeffer from CR, and I'm honestly not sure beyond that.

1st team Specialist goes to Spenser Urban, LSM from Sals.

Edit: Yes, definitely meant Schaeffer and M and not Sheehan.

I will admit there are a lot of Sallies players on there. Simply put, Sallies is that far ahead from the rest of the state. I have not seen Cape play, but other than that, I have seen just about all of the top teams in the state. There's a reason the Sals have won the last three state championships, the last two by 10+ goals. Coach Healy has built a great program which does not show any signs of slowing down.

The defense in front of Kern "is" very good. I think 8 or 9 of the teams they played had their lowest scoring game against the Sals. But Kern makes all the saves he's supposed to make and then has some very acrobatic saves on his resume as well. He is the best I've seen instate. For those who don't get to see a lot of games in person go to youtube or other on line sites to catch some highlights and game action from other teams. Not the same as seeing the game in person but at least you can get a sense of some of the talent that is spread around the state. The Sals clearly have the best team but their are some other "really" good players up and down the state.

Agreed laxdeusa. Last thing I want is to start another Sallies thread. I'd love to hear others opinions on other players.

Sheehan from CR is a D-pole.
Tam_UD may have meant Schaffer from CR

Let me ask this question(s)....
If Kern was still playing for Appo and they were not ranked Nationally...would he still be considered the best in the state? Or would he be a good goalie on an OK team
And If Sallies had all the other players in place and a different goalie...would that goalie be the best in state?

I never saw Kern play for Appo so its hard to say for sure. But watching him perform the last two years, (especially against Malvern, Georgetown Prep and Chatham) I still think he's the best. That beign said if Kern was at Appo and he had to play these three teams with the Appo defense in front of him I may not be looking at him in the same light. Epecially if Malvern, Prep and Chatham were scoring 15 goals a game vs the 5 goals a game they scored against Sallies.

Cape, Tower Hill, Archmere, St Marks all have really good players. Not sure of what teams they make but should be part of discussion. Sallies clearly has many players but others standout on not so dominant teams so should get nods for all state.

Shriner (U of Hartford committ) , Feguson and Laznik from Caravel should all get some consideration on one of the teams.. I don't believe I have ever seen Shriner lose a face-off I would guess he is at 98% face off wins or better.. Ferguson is scoring a ton of goals and Laznik is just a beast whith a very hard accurate shot ( he is drawing double and tripple teams just about every game)..

Kern was third-team all-state at Appo. One of two freshman, the other being Sheehan, to make an All-State team that year. So, yes, I do think he would be considered the best in the state.

According to this morning's News Journal and online stats, Cape's Benson had 6 points (3 goals and 3 assists) in their 14-7 loss to Sallies last night. The online stats also report him with 5 goals and 3 assists vs. Tower Hill on Friday, and 2 goals and 5 assists vs. CR last Wednesday. That's 10 goals and 11 assists against 3 of the top Delaware teams, including Sallies, in less than a week.

Who else in Delaware (and maybe anywhere) has tallied 6 points in a single game vs. Salesianum in any recent year? Would any of the Sals offensive leaders be likely to produce 6 points against their own outstanding defense?

Looks like you did a bunch of numbers crunching there 99, that second Attack spot and the AA bid that goes with it is going to come down to who gets their team into the finals against Sals. My guess is that's Cape and Benson.

I've watched Benson play since he was a little kid. He is not flashy but is that rare player who makes everyone on his team play and look better. He usually leads all scorers in points and assists but it is his feeds you remember.
