Seven Boilers Nab Pre-Seeds at Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invit.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Seven Boilermakers earned tournament pre-seeds at the 2019 Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, announced Wednesday night by the CLKV tournament committee. The total for head coach Tony Ersland’s wrestling squad is one higher than their 2018 haul, and is headlined by three No. 3 seeds at 125, 149 and 174 pounds, respectively.

“While at the end of the day it’s the numbers next to your name at the end of the tournament that matter, it’s nice to see our guys being recognized for their wins and achievements,” said Ersland. “Hopefully this sets our team up to have a great tournament and make some noise out here in Vegas.”

Junior Devin Schroder kicks off the list of Boilermaker pre-seeds with the No. 3 nod at 125 pounds. Ranked as high as seventh in the country at the weight, he sports a 12-1 record on the season, including a team-high five technical falls. Fellow junior Griffin Parriott followed suit at 149 pounds with the No. 3 seed their, sitting undefeated at 5-0 and coming off of a big-time win over then-ranked No. 5 Brock Zacherl of Clarion at the Boilermaker Duals. Parriott was the CKLV runner-up at 157 pounds last season, upsetting top-seeded Tyler Berger of Nebraska to reach the finals as a No. 8 seed.

Freshman Kendall Coleman aims to continue his red-hot start to his Boilermaker career, entering the tournament at 12-0 and earning the No. 4 seed at 157 pounds. Coleman is tied for the best rookie start in recent Purdue history, matching Chris Fleeger’s 12-0 start from 2001-02. Classmate Emil Soehnlen earned the No. 8 seed at 165 pounds, and senior Dylan Lydy is the third and final top-three seed for the Boilermakers, earning the No. 3 spot at 174 pounds.

Lydy is 9-0 to start his final season with the Boilermakers, surrendering only one takedown so far on the year. He already has wins over the No. 4 and No. 14 seeds in the tournament entering the week, both coming at the Journeymen Duals in November.

Junior Max Lyon and senior Christian Brunner wrap up the list of seeded Boilermakers as Lyon is the No. 12 seed at 184 pounds and Brunner is the No. 7 seed at 197. Lyon aims to make his mark in a loaded field at the weight, while Brunner made his move back into the varsity lineup for Purdue at the Boilermaker Duals and looks to regain his preseason top-10 ranking from the various polls.

All seeds are subject to change following weigh-ins Friday, when action is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. PT at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
