Beautiful sunshine.

Not many games on the docket for today.

Appo (10-3) vs Wm Penn (8-5) at Frawley Stadium. Appo better be careful not to be looking ahead to tomorrow's Conference game against Charter which could decide the Flight A Title. Penn has no chance at the title, but not only would love to play spoiler to make things interesting, Penn has a shot at making the playoffs for the first time in about 8 years. Appo has had a great season thus far and has a very good chance of making the playoffs with or without the conference title, but Appo must keep on winning. Appo still plays Caravel, Charter and Mt P. So Appo would love to win today and tomorrow, then coast into a quaranteed spot in the playoffs. Appo's ace, Garrett is 6-1, but i'm thinking he won't throw today, he will throw tomorrow. Appo is scoring about 8 runs per game and only surrenders about 2 runs per game. Just three seasons ago, Wm Penn was 0-18. The following year they only won 3 games. Last year they jumped to 9-9 and now this year with 5 remaining games, they are 8-5. After starting 0-3, Penn has surged back going 8-2, including winning 3 straight games. Penn's bats have been on fire, averaging 8 runs per game this season. Where they differ from Appo is that they are allowing almost 3 times as many runs. Penn's pitching is allowing 5 runs per game. That should play into Appo's favor. Appo and Penn have hit a combined 11 long balls this season, but not sure we will see much of that at Frawley tonight. Appo beat Penn 5-1 last season but needed some late runs to pull away in that close game. Appo is 3-0 in school history against Penn in baseball.

Newark Charter (7-5) @ Caravel (9-4). I thought maybe Newark Charter bit off more than they could chew this season putting Tech, St E, Lake, Sallies, Caravel and Dover on their schedule in its first year. Still do....but i give them credit for trying. The problem with their schedule was that they have 6 really tough games and at least 11 games against lighter competition. We aren't really sure what we were looking at with a 7-5 record. NC got outscored 27-2 by Tech, St E and Lake in its first three games. NC has put up big scores on St thomas More, Tome, McKean, Sanford, Delmarva Christian, DEPSS and Howard, Then there was Sallies. The ALMOST biggest victory in school history. Sallies took a 4-1 lead going into the top of the 7th, and NC scored 5 to take the lead 6-4 going into the bottom of the 7th. But Sallies rallied and came back scoring to 3 to beat NC. Now NC tries its hand at one of the top teams in the state, Caravel. Let us not forget that NC has all Freshman and Sophmore players. They have a lot of contributers. On the mound its Dorr, Chopko, Page. At the plate its Dalton, Buglio, Kelby, Lesher. Caravel is coming off 2 straight losses and is 9-4, but Delawareans shouldn't worry Caravel should coast into the playoffs. Caravel is led by Carney and Fraley on the mound. Not sure if either will pitch this one given Caravel's big game with Roman Catholic on Friday.
