Sat scores?

Smyrna had a 43-36 lead and the ball at one point. They kind of disintegrated from that point on and St. E just took over. Props to Rubincam and St. E - they outplayed Smyrna today. Thomas woke up half way thru the 3rd Q and was a big factor the rest of the way. Smyrna could not get any shots for Matthews in the 4th. St. E played very well down the stretch and deserved to win. Disappointed with some of Garnett’s actions near the end. After one made St E free throw he intentionally rolled the ball away from the ref before the second shot. The ref - to his credit - looked at Garnett but did not say anything to him. Next time St. E was on the line Garnett had the inside position but stood with his back to the basket and stared down the ref near the sideline. I really like Garnett as a player. He has a great upside, but he needs to just play the game and avoid those types of displays. He clearly can play at the next level, but some coaches will shy away when they see that stuff. Congrats to St. E and props to Smyrna on a fine season.

Yes- St E scored last 10 points and had a 16-3 run from late in the third to win. Most of last 10 were Smyrna handing points over in the final 40 seconds.

Sorry- I did the math wrong - was 26-13 run. Brain freeze on the 39-34 lead.

Garnett is the same player who went into the bleacher's at Slam last season going after a parent? Had to be tackled by his coach at the Cape game and now this? Sounds like a repeat of Rickards career.

Who got ejected and why?
There was only one ejection, for Garnett. There was a little confusion over that because a foul got called on #1 for Smyrna and on the same play, Garnett got his second Technical and ejection. #1 apparently thought that he had been ejected b/c he headed for the bench, but he was not ejected, just Garnett. It was too bad that the game ended that way. It's not a reflection on Smyrna or their staff.

I wouldn’t really consider a 2nd team all conference player a “big name” but good riddance. He’s a good player but over the past 3 years for every post saying how good he is there’s a post about him doing something unsportsmanlike. Hopefully the next school can better babysit him

No, the reflection on their staff was the way they lost. I wonder if he called a play all game

Garnett is a punk. Should have been t'd up on both of the free throws incidents. That's why the game is played so out of control nowadays...AAU mentality. Congrats to St E's...... defense..and DISCIPLINE win championships.

As Rickards, who kicked someone in the face after breaking free from his coach, then arrested and pleads innocent, suspended by DIAA for a whooping game, is representing Cape in the Blue/Gold game???
The AI kid wasn't allowed to play last year b/c he had to sit a game. Rickards never sat out his game. He was suspended from school the day of their last game and couldn't play that day per district policy. He never served the DIAA suspension. Let another kid who is not out on probation for kicking a kid in the head play. There has to be a better representative of what high school athletics is about in the Henlopen Conference..

And talent and coaching. Dick Rago coached St E's for 30 years. No wonder they never won a championship before today. He was horrible.

Much like Yaztremski who never won a championship.

J. Garnett in a Dover uniform with Peace, Davis, and Allen would look really good next year. Those boys played on the same AAU team before and did a lot of damage at Nationals in VA.

There was rumors last year of Garnett coming to Dover in the beginning of the year to live with the mom. Definitely a possibility now with the talent that Dover has.

He would make a great addition for Dover being that big that they have been searching for. but I don't think his attitude and Dover would mix very well.

Again, Garnett would be perfect for Dover! He played AAU (6th Man Warriors/Delaware’s Finest) with the guards for Dover when Garnett was a freshman and they were 8th graders. They went to Nationals in VA and played up 15u bc of Garnett’s status, and they took 3rd at Nationals out of like 72 teams from across the country.

Is there an official box score for the Championship game? In the final moments, one referee appeared to eject a Smyrna guard for an incident on the sideline, and that player left the court. After his technical, Garnett stayed on the bench for the final seconds.

In terms of character, it was not a good day for Mr. Garnett. He needs a strong coach to instill some discipline and channel his immense talent. There is big difference between being the primary scorer and the second option.
