For us beginners, could someone give the basic format of the tournament? Number of teams, how many from the conferences, etc. Does a committee sit down at the end to determine seeds? Are the points the only criteria used? Strength of schedule, automatic bids, etc. Does seeding determine home/away placements? And any other information you may have. Thanks in advance.

There are 16 teams in the tournament. 6 of the teams get in automatically by winning their respective conference (Blue Hen A, Blue Hen B, Henlopen North, Henlopen South, Diamond State and Independent. The rest of the teams are determined by POINTS. The teams with the most points get in. Points are determined by getting 3 points for every win. Then 1 additional pt if the team you PLAYED (not beat) gets to a .500 winning percentage. You get an additional point for any opponent gets to .650 winning percentage. All teams are ranked by points. No BYES. 16 plays at 1, 15 plays at 2, etc, etc.

This is a little more than basic, and doesn't usually come into play, but there are a few nuances to the automatic bids:
The Conference/Flight/Division Champion must possess a .500 winning percentage record or better.
The Conference/Flight/Division Champion must be in the top 50% of all eligible teams in the state tournament field.
