I would make a top 10 like someone did for division 2 but there's no point....every year is the same teams

Smyrna, Middletown, Salesianum, William Penn and Concord will be playoff contenders.

Anyone have some Intel on who might come up and spoil a few playoff hopes.

Sussex Central made the playoffs last year but you can tell they were simply out matched when they got in. They kept up with Smyrna but let's not forget who wasn't playing for Smyrna in that game, and add the weather conditions.

Sussex Tech is solid but has lacked in areas to make that next jump up to contend with the top 3-5 every year.

What about a Cape? Will there be a new coach? If so, what kind of effect it will have on the team? Good or bad?

How will Hodgson and St. Georges fair in the always tough and brutal Flight A? Will they have the numbers to hang all 4 quarters unlike most division 2 teams.

Or does any of this matter, and it will be two of the first 5 mentioned in the final game?

Good Post....I think D1 comes down to Smyrna, Middletown, and Sussex Central.....THAT'S IT. Hodgson and St. Georges are well coached so they will make D1 interesting.

This is why I follow D2 more then D1....EVERYONE and their pets knew it would be Middletown vs. Smyrna. In D2 there's more of a chance of a team like Friends getting hot at the right time and making the championship game.

No faith in Sallies next year?

I actually took a liking to the Slowskys this year only to be disappointed by their odd loss to Penn and underperformance in the second loss to Middletown. My sense is that next year will be like a .500 year for them. They lose 4 out of the starting 5 offensive linemen. Maybe the big guy - Whittelsy - will come back and help anchor the O line. Their QB should be solid though he ain't got much too work with....

They had a nice D lineman (who should be back next year) who got hurt against Middletown in the first game and missed the rest of the year but quite candidly the Slowsky D has been soft for a couple of years. I have no idea why. Where have you gone Kevin Reilly?

My last check of their 2017 schedule they still had 2 open dates.

The second poster was on target....it looks like a Smyrna-Middletown game revisited.

Smyrna losing Henderson is big. Still have really good players but no one knows what that offense looks like with someone else at the helm.

Smyrna still has a lot of horses and an offensive system that no one was able to stop this year. ( Sussex Central game duly noted). They may take a loss next season but I think we are in for a threepeat.

I would second that notion. The championship game showed me that Smyrna doesn't need a quarterback. With all due respect to Henderson, who put up incredible numbers but wasn't a factor in the title game, this team will continue trucking until someone can step up and shut them down.

Idk where Middletowns defense was at during the playoffs but it wasn't the same team that played the first 10 games of the year. Idk who else is on Smyrnas schedule besides The HN, Middletown and Sallies but if anyone is going to stop or slow them down its going to be one of those two if not Smyrna itself. If they put a QB who's not ready it might hurt them more than just having Knight and Brown take the snaps. The LINE will be questioned at times though which the talent that's graduating. (If I remember correctly they were seniors?)

With that said, Smyrna has a GREAT chance at a three-peat and we'll get a great idea of how good of a chance week one in Middletown. Either nothing will change, the Eagles come back down to earth or the Cavs step up.

My opinion is no matter who wins or loses that game it will be those two again come late in the season. Idk what sallies or Penn has coming back but both lacked playmakers down the stretch and Concord probably loses its best player in Avery to Nebraska. Graham is too injury prone, so if I was them is put him on the sidelines in street clothes in meaningless games. They have a few of them, I won't call them out but we all know who those teams are. Concord could use a 100% healthy graham come playoffs

Well said my friend...I don't think Smyrna needs a dominant QB to be successful. They just need a QB who won't turn the ball over. From what I've been told....The WR Emon Roberts has QB experience from playing the position when he was younger.

Concord always underachieves IMO due to their lack of having a opened up offense. I can see Sussex Tech being a better D1 team then Concord.

Smyrna is top dog again next year. Brown and Knight return and that's almost enough to beat anyone on their schedule. The real X factor is the Smyrna coaching. Those guys are light years ahead of most schools in DE. I saw lots of teams running schemes defensively last year that had no shot at stopping Smyrna. Until the old dogs in DE catch up with slowing the spread it's going to be tough to beat Smyrna.

Slowsky FB coach working on offensive strategy?

Bumfuzzled do you have a life?

@Ches....
2017
Smyrna 56
Sallies 12

Last year brought us a 60-24 drubbing. That is a 36 point butt whuppin'. Now your saying that they will go into Baynard and win by 48. That would be painful....

I wonder what Bummy would think...

I still can't believe Bummy isn't saying he called it first. About 10 years ago he was on here preaching Smyrna would be the new king of DE football.

Nostradamus = Bummy????

Nostradamus = Bummy????

The Bummy timeline is interesting. He claimed to be a big Smyrna fan and said he was banned from athletic events. I forget why but he then claimed a new AD allowed into sporting events. He used to say that Smyrna was a sleeping giant and only needed coaching, Then when Smyrna broke out he stopped the pro Smyrna stuff. After years of hammering the Sals he then started talking up their talent.

Now, he has proclaimed another self banishment with a set comeback day.
The guy/girl can't help himself/herself. When FB season rolls around he will be good for 4 posts a day. His city ratings were amusing.

Heard bummy is back on the raft heading to Cuba in search of dukkieee, just repeating what I heard. I wonder if bummy realizes he can go to Cuba legally now
