One kid is going to Smyrna. His name is Elijah Statham. He played at Penn Charter last year as an 8th grader. He has an older brother, not sure of name but I know he is going into 11th. He has drawn interest from some top D1 schools. The family moved from Philly to Smyrna early winter.

Prospects??? Let’s start offering 5th graders. ? prospects?? Same type of thing a certain organization is doing in Ohio. Come on guys. Your focus should be working together to create in state combines to showcase talent. Not more youth leagues and all star games. The early maturing kids always dominate youth. Rare does it continue all the way through HS. Every HS in your state should work together to create Conference showcases in the summer for college recruiters to attend. This and spring ball would help Delaware a lot. It would be a very easy thing to organize since the state is so small. It is being done now in neighboring states with great success. Colleges recruiters love it. Plus no money is made off the kid. Hell you could fundraise at the event selling food. Money would go right back into Delaware Schools and programs instead of the shoe company’s. Stop with all the projections of kids so young.

Couldn't agree more.

These events are doing nothing but taking advantage of parents and student athletes alike for the almighty dollar.

This day and age is scary in terms of parents, their ridiculous expectation levels - all coupled with their lack of knowledge and expertise in areas such as recruting and athletics as a whole.

What a joke...pay to get your name on a list so someone can say you are the future??

Organizers should be investigated, and held accountable.

@prepfootballstars @ceech1 @SmallWonderSports

I understand where each of you are coming from because there are a lot of organizers who creates this types of events that is in it for the wrong reasons and I appreciate y’all feedback.

However, this event is a great way for these youth athletes from Delaware to participate in a game where they can test their skills vs other talented players in the same age group and same area as them. So from a local statewide standpoint, this event is a great resource for Delaware's youth elite football players and we believe it will be an extreme success as well as an great tool for Delaware football for years and years to come.

My son is a year out from hopefully participating in this event, but he played in an all star game in New Orleans over the Xmas holiday and he'll be playing in one in VA Beach Memorial Day weekend. The kids who play in these games are typically the top tier of their youth league/team, so it does in fact give your son the opportunity to play against better competition and with kids who are playing football because they love it - not just because their buddies are doing it. My son has had so much fun playing in them and as a family, we like it because it gives us an opportunity to meet families of others kids who's sons love playing as much as our son does. This particular event is great, because you don't have the additional cost of travel, meals and hotel. I know a couple of the kids who will be playing in the game, so I'll definitely be in attendance.

Before judgement is passed about this event, I suggest attending the game to see what it’s all about. Last year’s game was a blast for the kids and it’s always good to see football in the Spring. Hopefully the organizers took the constructive criticism from last year (offered in this forum) and made some improvements.

Good luck to the kids and the event organizers!

@DrDesigno this is actually the first year we are having this event. Last year events wasn't hosted by us but thank you for your support.

wow who really wants to watch a bunch of 5th - 8th graders playing off season football? Why not call it what it is...Given its being played at Caravel, I guess its a chance for them to recruit their next bunch of kids. At 5-6th grade, more than half of the kids haven't even started hitting puberty yet or lifting for that matter.

No one is looking at them trust me. Absolutely no one. Call it whatever you want. Do it for free then. You can play football forever. Since 5th grade. Go to every all star game, win 6th grade MVP. I will see you on he varsity field. When the work in the weight room shows out , and how you deal with teenage pressure . If you can maintain your grades. Then I will still offer the kid who played 8 games total but is 6’4” 250 pounds and runs like the wind. Hand selecting kids for all star games this young, and promoting them is very funny.

This is a world wide game now. If you attended the Rutgers east coast elite camp recently you could see that. International participation at every camp this summer is alomost triple. These all star games feed off the delusional parents that believe their kid loves football. They do it because you make them. They don’t know what they love yet. The kid who trains on his own, and works without being told they love it. They make it. Not entitled kids who believe they are the best because you have proped them up since 5th grade.

I scouted a kid RB early into my career. Back when we would hang out in the athletes town to try and get info. This particular athlete we Stayed in the area for about two weeks. Every single day this kid ran 5 miles in the Morning and at night. Alone on the side of the road. I witnessed it, no social media post, no one to praise him. No teammates with him. He did it because he was self motivated, and wanted to be great. We offered him as junior. Fast forward to December of his senior year after he had about 8 Division One Offers. He was verbally committed to another school. I was back in his town looking at another kid from a rival HS. I passed him in the am still doing that run. Those athletes are who you want. If you burn them out to much when they are young, by the time they get to HS they hate the game.

Football is not like basketball or baseball. It’s so physical and demanding, and everyone only has so many plays in them. You start that play count to young, you risk the athlete. Mentally and physically.
Let them be kids, go play all sports. Find a tree play with a stick. Do many things. When and if they fall in love with football you will know. They will be in the yard playing catch by themselves with the ball.
