Why do you have Central girls playing Woodbridge playing back to back, also undefeated returning champions are 2 seed? I guess they have to prove it on the court again... Wow!

Its a lot to explain but you asked...I don't like the fact that any team has to play teams twice in a row either....If I can adjust things within reason then I will....I hope and try for teams to play a team in the first round that they haven't played all season in an ideal world...this was the case in many games......I can moreso do this in the C and D brackets as athletic directors are more dialed into short trips and keeping teams together.....case in point prehaps Holy Cross shouldn't be playing Dover Air in the first round games but proximity and budgets and the fact that they haven't played against each other came into play as well...I had a call this afternoon requesting that his traveling teams play first two games because of a late night return...which I understand.. I have them in the middle two games...so the school would not complain about early departure...when your scheduling MS games many variables come into play.....But in the upper brackets coaches and athletic directors keep me accountable...I ran tournaments for ten years prior to Capital Classic and as we all know with a four team bracket the top seed has the right to play the worst team in the bracket i.e. the fourth seed...Just because Fifer Boys won last year Im not going to make them the top seed...Mariner has earned that spot...If I think Dover will beat Fifer and Mariner I can't make Dover the top seed....Prestige may have something to say btw...it all comes down to you gotta win your last two games as you well know...nothing else should matter too much...I once had the AD Principal from Milford tell me if I didn't seeded his team at the top he was going to pull his team out of the tournament because then it was televised on Comcast and he wanted his boys on TV...I put a lot of thought into the schedule/seedings which is even harder now with 32 teams...Im not like the other guy who runs tournaments in DE that just throws teams together without much forethought...apparently you haven't seen Conrad Girls play or perhaps you may not be so swift to move them down...I don't have control over where CMS-Woodbridge season ends as in Woodbridge at CMS...but its kind of cool that they both get a home shot to decide who is best downstate....CMS Girls have the only three challenges they have faced all year all back to back to back...it should be fun to see if they rise to the occasion and which press works better on which girls under the intense pressure...and If Conrad can break the press .Conrad have also not had a substantial opponent thus far and that is why they seeked out our tournament to better prepare their players for HS...I honestly had never heard of the school prior....I understand what your saying about the defending champion thing but that is not part of the Capital Classic current thinking as in our articles/bylaws.(501C3 non-profit)..I consulted the board members who coach at Fifer and Seaford and by a 2-1 slim vote we decided that last year should not affect the present year....things change too much at the middle school level...perhaps I should add some astute community members to the board like yourself...your outstanding student-athlete has moved past middle school yet you are still involved, interested and contemplative albeit biased...haha...I truly do appreciate your input and constructive thoughts!!

Thank you for your response, I' m all for the good of basketball and will always support positive events like the capital classic. You said it Conrad has not played anybody or got tested yet so thier seeding is subjective. And yes the returning CMS players have proved it on the court. I'm not basis but do see alot of basketball either CYM, AAU and middle school girls. When Beacon girls had thier powerhouse team two years ago I said that nobody was going to beat them. And last year well you know! Thanks for the informative response no reply is nessary. I will be there again this year cheering for all the teams.

The question for the week is a two part question....first part is who will win the Fifer vs. Dover Boys CMS game at 4:00 this Friday at CMS....two great squads with two of the best middle school coaches in the state????

Question Two: Is the first game of the tournament going to be the best game of the tournament??? Get there a little early...there might not be any seating left for this one!!

Beacon girls are back this year although a completely different style from 2 years ago they will be tough to beat

Definitely wish we found a way to get Selbyville Middle into the dance. The boys have a trio of talented players that have shown they can compete with the best as they took Mariner to the end. The girls have shown they can compete with the best losing to Posthlewait at the buzzer and holding Dover to a season low scoring total. Girls had the toughest schedule with 5 of the 8 teams in the top two brackets.

The Selbyville Girls coach ...i.e. u....has been awesome in trying very hard to get his girls into the tournament...there just wasn't anymore spots....the boys of Selbyville have never wanted to compete in the Capital Classic after constant invitations for ten years...not sure if it was the AD or coaches that wanted to end their season earlier to go to Buffalo Wild Wings instead of extending their season but its truly deplorable...I hope the boys team now have a dedicated, interested and knowledgeable coach now like the girls now do...the girls are now atop the wait list with the PCA girls who graciously yielded to Conrad...along with the Bayard Boys who had some unfortunate events....Sussex Academy expressed some interest in next year as well....64 here we come.....Oh no!!!!!

If you can't make the big Fifer vs Central Dover today at 4 at CMS I post all scores here on DE Preps....

If Dover/Central presses Fifer then it could get ugly because their guards are that much better. Fifer's bigs will hold their own w/ #=32 & #42 but their touches will be limited if the guards can't handle the ball pressure Dover may bring.

I saw the scrimmage before the season began where Dover dominated Fifer so if that is a sign of what is to come today it doesn't look good for Fifer. I'd like to believe that after a season full of games that they will put up more of a fight but I think Dover is just too deep & more talented.

Dover up on Fifer 19-17 @ the half...I'm not sure why but Dover is sitting in a 2-3 zone vs man to man or pressing when their guards are their strong point.

Dover wins 53-31 handing Fifer it's first loss of the season. Dover stretched the 2-3 out & began trapping in the second half forcing turnovers creating easy buckets.

Dover Central coach is VERY SUSPECT. Dover Central Middle is always loaded. They win in spite of and not because of. People equate wins and undefeated seasons to great coaching when that's hardly the case. When you have the top players in the state year in and year out you should win ball games.

How did beacon girls end up In top bracket? They scored 6 points? I hope that's not accurate.

Conrad and Dover is so much better than everyone else this year....Beacon was 9-2 prior to Conrad.....Conrad and Dover have just been a buzz saw to everyone this year....if any team in the B was up there to play them I bet the result would be similar....
