why do we even put a team in --a total joke-softball has won 2 in the last 6 years-baseball one a nd out

coaches??

no seniors?

better organization?

true top players chosen??

Does anyone know when the last year it was where a Delaware team won a game in this tournament?

I think the first question you need to ask is, "What is our goal? What is it that we are trying to achieve by participating?" Are we trying to get kids exposure to college & pro scouts or are we trying to line up the best kids who might have a chance at winning? Or is it simply whoever comes to the tryout can play?

Second question - why do we now have Freshmen and Sophomores playing in this tournament? Most kids at that age are still playing travel or Senior League anyway. Is there simply not enough interest in playing from the older more mature players? Are players who have committed to play at a college restricted from playing? Do you think that you will be able to seriously compete playing with roughly a third of your roster that young with mandatory play in effect?

Looking at the Gold roster: it makes no sense whatsoever that 12 of the 25 roster spots were filled with players from CR & Dover. I don't care if they are the head/assistant coaches. That's terrible. Instead of Delaware South, you are playing Dover/CamdenWyoming. And lastly theres only 3 players from the entire Henlopen Southern Division.

Why not take your Blue/Gold rosters and re-divide them based on County to play in the Carpenter Cup?

8yaz. The last time a Delaware team won a game in this tournament was 2006, Delaware South won 8-4, but turned around and got skunked by Chester in the next round 27-8. That year Delaware North lost to Chester in extra innings in the first round.

In 2004, Delaware North won its first round game, but lost in the 2nd round.

In 2001, both North and South won their first games, but lost in the next round.

In 2000, Delaware South won the Tournament.

So combined, Delaware North and South have lost 16 straight games over 8 years.

As for 2014, nothing against the players participating but Delaware South only had 1 First Team All State player participating. Delaware North only had 3 First Team All State Players participating. There wasnt a single player from state champs, Caravel, and only 1 player from runner up St Marks (that player wasn't one of the five all state st marks players). and no players from Semi Finalist A.I. Dupont. Also only 14 of the 50 participating players from Delaware are seniors. And it seems only 14 of the 51 All State players (first, 2nd or Honorable Mention) participated.

So to me its clear that Delaware high school seniors are not interested in playing in this tournament, neither are most of the All State players. Also, when 3 of the top 4 teams in the state only send a single player, i would say the top teams aren't interested in participating either.

Why no interest? Maybe Kids are starting up their travel ball seasons. Vacations? Seniors have obligations like graduation parties, senior weeks? Top teams are preoccupied with playing for championship to have this on their radar? Lack of information about the tournament from coaches. Is there politics involve?? How are the coaches selected? Of the North coaches i only saw 1 coach that actually coached in the state tournament this year.

Lets go Delawere. We need to do a better job in this tournament.

The season starts in March. It doesn't end until late in the fall. Kids need, and should take, breaks. That's just the way it is. I don't blame kids for not wanting to play in this thing anymore. Maybe it is still prestigious to other participants, but around here there's no allure. It's the beginning of the summer, school is out, seems like a great week or two to forget about organized baseball and just enjoy life while you are young.

Here's the link for the Carpenter Cup

http://philadelphia.phillies.mlb.com/phi/community/carpenter_cup.jsp

Their history includes the following:

Each year more than 400 high school players from the tri-state area are able to showcase their skills in front of major league scouts and college/university coaches. The Carpenter Cup has been a catalyst for many players to receive scholarships or admission to some of the country's finest universities.

This year they added a new emhasis:

"This year, more than half of the players showcasing their skills will be underclassmen (juniors, sophomores or freshman)!" I believe it's a requirement that at least half of its players on each team are undergraduates.

This tournament is no longer for seniors. Seniors by this time of year have committed and the draft is over. Most college teams have filled their rosters. In addition to hectic travel schedules many universities have prospect camps this week.

as stated the kids all know it is a cr/dover team--their coaches do it every year

tourney should be 10 and 11 grade only

3 players max per team

coach should rotate

or better yet just dont play

I suspect the scouts know by now that Delaware doesn't send their best players to this tournement, so they probably don't even go to the Delaware games, unless there is someone on the other team they want to see.

Tryouts are at the start of most schools senior weeks. Teams that make it to the state semis or finals are playing right up to tryouts. This years opening round games matched a lot of schools final exams week.

Isn't it the same for all of the teams though?
