Story on Delaware Online also video of the fight.. Long and short of it CHS players and coaches felt cheated by DIAA that they had 7 players suspended and AI only 4 and after watching the video I believe they have a legitimate gripe.. Also their HC got a call earlier that day and was told he was suspended by the school... players basically refused to put on shoulder pads and helmet and play in protest..

As a Howard alum who was disappointed for the seniors who didn't get a proper send off, I COMPLETELY understand. Asking Christiana to play 3 games in 7 days is MADNESS and I never saw the video until now. A.I. got away with some foolishness. Also, suspending a man the day of his mother's funeral, knowing how deeply his players care for him, is the stupidest decision I've heard in a long time.

That video was eye opening for sure. I don’t know how CHS gets 7 guys and AI gets only 4 suspended. The fight wasn’t that bad (anytime fighting happens it’s bad) but I was expecting a lot worse. It’s a shame because CHS was having a good season compared to recent history. And yeah suspending a coach the same day he buries his mom is harsh. Hopefully things work out there.

Howard senior night gets ruined but I think there is a bigger picture to keep in mind.

The problem is you can’t see what starts the fight. After the AI kid goes out of bounds it looks like the CHS kid is trying to hold him up before they get to the track. The next scene is the 2 of them fighting. So what actually caused the fight to start?

How would they have had 3 games in 7 days?
 
According to Brad's story, they played Glasgow Monday, would've played Howard last night and finished the AI game this coming Monday.

The Christiana coach admitted his player started things. That’s not the issue.
 
I'm not going to try and figure out what happened with the fight, you really can't tell. The one thing we all know is that it can sometimes get heated on the field.
The DIAA made their ruling. I neither agree or disagree with it. What I do agree with is Christiana as a unit, protesting in a peaceful and constructive way. If you feel that strongly about something, make a statement, peacefully protest. That is exactly what these young men did and I commend them for it.
While I understand the disappointment for Howard, I hope they can view it in the same light.

I don’t like the fact that the cheerleaders and band were left hanging. Should have been handled a bit better. Also, protest reason needs to be verbalized.

Even more than before I’ll say again AI got away with one. This is bad!!!! First they use the rule of leaving the bench to their own discretion. Then as true as it might be the Blue Hen Conference officials slaps McKean, Brandywine, Dickinson and Christiana in the face saying Christiana game is irrelevant because they should beat the 3 previously named teams so the cancel the Christiana makeup after Howard win and now that the tape was shown....smh.
 
This story only gets worse. The refs need to be held accountable along with DIAA. I have obtained a copy of the incident report and this is sad. There is nothing true that was reported in their report. I'm not sure what the state has against Christiana.

DIAA GAME INCIDENT REPORT (EJECTION) Date of Game: 6 Oct 2018 Date of Report: 7 Oct 2018 Home Team: Christiana High School Date of Amended Report: 7 Oct 2018 Visiting Team: AI DuPont High School Site: Christiana High School Contest Type: Varsity Football Further Investigation by DIAA: Yes Officials: Referee: Description of Incident: Late in the 2nd quarter, an AI DuPont (AHS) runner was carrying the ball along the Christiana sideline. The player, who voluntarily stepped out of bounds between the 20 and 25 yard lines, was then tackled by a player from Christiana (CHS) approximately 5 yards out of bounds. The foul was immediately flagged. The players then exchanged shoves which resulted in punches being thrown by AHS players 1 and 5 and CHS player 90 CHS players 1 and 5 and AHS player 90. The entire Christiana team exited the team box to join the altercation. We are not aware of the status of the CHS coaching staff during this event. AHS Head Coach Blum entered the field and began grabbing his players to assist with breaking up the fight. The AHS assistant coaches stayed on their side of the field to control their team & restrict the sidelines from entering the field. The officiating crew met in the middle of the field to discuss and exchange information. As all the CHS players were either involved or no longer on the sidelines, it was decided to suspend the game at that point and allow DIAA to review film and officials reports to determine which player remained eligible. Both coaches and CHS Athletic Director Jennifer Mayer were informed of the crew’s decision. As a side note, numerous Christiana fans left the stands to join the altercation as there was no police presence at the game.

I agree. You could edit this and take the names and numbers of the refs out.

Site Mod I would take that down. At least until he edits it.
 
Just saw the article on D online where Christiana coach admitted he allowed the suspended players from the brawl to play next game...thats not good.. The school had no choice but to suspend him..

I’d say he’s pretty much fired. I think they got screwed but you can’t just play the players anyway. The punishment was wrong but it has to be followed. Unless reversed by appeal.
