Coaching vacancies

Maybe one of the middle school coaches can step up... that’s what they wanted :D

So who are the top candidates? I’m hearing Ayers from Tech wants it
Wide open right now.. Ayers has way to much talent to leave Tech.. Unless he brings all of them with him.. Corey Barnes is working out with the Tech too..

Shawn Phillips from Delmar and Marvin Morris from Woodbridge also two candidates I heard

Are we reaching with these candidates. I mean Marvin Morris coaches football, track at Woodbridge and basketball at Seaford. Which version of Phillips the Laurel coach or the Delmar one...

They both are below average coaches at best. I just relay the information that I hear.

I do like Ayers from Tech taking on Cape but probably too much talent at tech to leave is accurate.

Morris did when the Conference in 2014 and is very good coach and is very dedicated. I don't know much about Phillips but I work with Marv and that is my guy

Ayers is a Cape guy. He is a 2nd generation cape guy. He played for Cape in the late 80's, his sons have played for Cape and he still has one up and coming. No doubt he would covet the opportunity to coach at his alma mater and for the community that he grew up to love.

Had he been hired 8 years ago Cape wins a state title. Not bc he is or isnt a better coach than Re but bc kids would have not bolted to other programs.
Corbin boys, Corey Barnes, Rickards and Robertson would not have been sstopped. Ayers will keep kids home.

Tech is quickly becoming Vanderbilt lol. They are no longer in charge of the lottery process thus getting athletes into the school has become a much harder process. The writing is on the wall at Tech. The time to leave in now.

Look at Sussex Tech's roster. They will be loaded with seniors. They don't have many ballers coming in either. They have 2 or 3 years and they will look like a Hen South team.

If given the opportunity Ayers would be smart to accept the Cape job. One thing he better remember is coaching at Cape isn't as easy as it looks.

All the talk is a downstate coach replacing a downstate coach.

The only coach from a BH conference I can think of going to Henlopen was Gerry Peden. I think he coached at Christiana then later at Cape. Any others?

Can't think of any coming upstate.....??

Ralph Baird was very successful at the old PS DuPont HS in Wilmington. Then he went to Cape in the early 70’s and had those great teams with Purnell Ayers, John Bishop, Jimmy Allen, and others.

Peden also coached at Sussex Central and took them to a state title game where they lost to Wilmington High.

I remember going to a tournament game when Peden was coaching Cape. They played Hodgson under Lou Bender. Hodgson had a good young team, they were the higher seed, but I believe Cape from behind late and beat them maybe in OT. It was a great game that much I remember.

I believe Gerry Peden was at AI before he made the trek downstate. For some reason, I wonder if he also did a stint in the Independent Conference?

I remember watching Ralph play at PS and at various Wilmington Parks growing up. I believe Ralph coached at Sussex Tech.
