The 3-2 Salesianum Football Sals return home to the friendly confines of Baynard Staduim Saturday night when they play host to the undefeated Concord Raiders. Although it is not a must win, a loss drops the Gents to 3-3. Their 3 wins have not been overly convincing and their 2 losses have been blowouts so what can we expect when the scoreboard hits all zero's? There is a possibility both teams will be missing some key players that could certainly have an impact on the outcome, but for the states largest football program they have the luxury of being able to fill the voids, whereas you cannot replace a Roberts. The Sals have not started a season 3-3 dating back to the 2008/2009 season and mediocrity is not a word often associated with the schools long storied football program. So the question is- who do you see winning and why?

Concord

I have not seen the Raiders play yet, but if what you guys state about their run defense is true, then I believe that they could matchup well with a run-heavy Sals team. I am assuming both Patrick and Roberts will be healthy. Raiders 28 - Sallies 17

Bummy is back in a limited capacity due to other duties. I think Conord is due to win a hard hitting close game. I did get accused of flip flopping on the Slowskys after I had the opportunity to see them lose by 18 at Middletown last week. My only statement was that I had underestimated their talent. I do think that the O line has improved and Patrick ( if healthy) gives them the big back who can break tackles at the line and get into the 2nd and 3rd level of defenses. The Clones have to have that if they are to be successful at their Lombardi
Ball.

( One Frightland Fact: Concord has scored 195 this year and given up 49 while the Slowskys have scored 126 and given up 127 .)

I regret that I can't get to Baynard on Saturday Night. To keep peace in the family Bummy must attend a hayride with the Misses and grandkids. Don't be too jealous.

Uncle Bummy; I am a little disappointed in you. I thought you were coming into the light.

If everybody is healthy and the Slowskys beat Concord and Wm Penn then you have to say they are #3 in D1 but we are only at the midway point.

At the moment it is pretty apparent who the top 2 are it is all about who is 3-6.

Sorry to disappoint.

I've seen Concord once in a demolition of Mount Pleasant, but even then, they had some lapses in discipline and just general absent-minded stuff. A team like Sallies can kill you for the smallest mistakes, so if the Raiders can't cut down on those, it might be a long night. Should be a close game though.

At the end of 2nd, Concord will mail it in. It's Concord.

It's Concord. They are 5-0 and are playing at Baynard. In their last 2 appearances at Baynard against the Slowskys the Raiders have impressed in the first half and taken leads. Then they have gotten worn out in the second half. This is a far better Concord team playing against a struggling clone team.

@dove..
old stadium?
I am thinking he is referring too when they had the old bleachers and the light poles were wood and closer to field.
Sals v Baltimore Poly
Sals v Crossan
....speaking of Poly teams....couple yrs ago....that lil qb from Poly Prep (NY) was the best running qb I have ever seen play in that stadium...matter of fact-I said it then...he is the most athletic dude I have ever seen play qb in Delaware!

If am not mistaken Baynard was pretty much redone before the '72 season. The I-95 side stands were replaced with the ones that lasted until like last year. There used to be end zone stands at the entrance side. They were removed. On the Railroad track side there were the same configuration but where the stands ended there were concrete stands that maybe people sat on way back in the day. Those concrete bleachers curved around the stadium for a good bit.

Also as part of that redoing of the stadium in 1972 the light standards went behind the stands. They used to be on the sidelines. (You used to miss a tackle here and there because your view could be blocked by a light pole.) The fence around the field was inside the track so people used to walk around the track during the games. Sorry...I am boring myself....

Maybe that what dove was talking about. The stadium has had the same basic configuration since '72.

Good stuff Ches!
As HS football fans- all we can hope is that the venue is around for years to come! Hey-if they make improvements great, but its a special place.

BT got mad squabbles......he don't like the fact that this is not a Sallies dominated message board anymore. He also likes to dish it but can't take it........he lost too much weight.....skin too thin LOL.
-all that is just kidding....he is missed.

First Sallies game was in 1956 when I was in second grade. I was raised within walking distance of Baynard. As you know I get to 8-9 of their games a year. I am looking forward to tomorrow night.

I miss BT as a poster. Hell, even I used to argue with him....

Jawnsky: that Qb from Poly Prep was a kid named Chris Parker and you are right. That kid was Henderson - on steroids. Hell of a player who was equally dangerous running and passing. I tried to follow his career post high school and the last thing I found was that he was a walk-on at Rutgers. I know of a certain school in Newark that would have loved to have a QB able to pass the ball.

That's him!.....watching him was like watching a video game.

SALS 24-10. Concord is in a nice area with malls and movie theaters. Concord is not used to the limelight and are more comfortable cruising the mall and the valley
I think an Expert with the initials Raven Rooster replied with a short story explaining...something? It was here all week and gone now
