I would agree that they have progressed nicely over the last five years but they should be further along. A win today would have went a long way toward restoring the respect they once had. The photo just demonstrates that there is a foundation to be built upon whether 1947 or 1974 the program was once respectable. The leadership can not continue to accept 30+ losses to their natural rival DMA.

Is Conrad supposed to be some powerhouse or something? They've improved greatly over the past few years especially from where they were losing to Seaford.... Not sure what people expect from them though. Are kids lining up to go there or something?

Agreed! They've progressed nicely. My only comment would be that it is a disappointment to watch a team in contention for a playoff spot get beat by 33 points by their rival. Conrad is an academic school and not a football factory but the fan would still like to see a competitive team on the field. I'll close as I opened with the statement that I'm in agreement that they have shown improvement.

Conrad has a state lottery to get in DMA can go hand pick any athlete they want Conrad can't so you will never compete with them.

I don't necessarily agree with this statement. There is some criteria, other than sports, that a child must meet in order to be selected to attend DMA. I do, however, agree that competition between the two schools will most likely continue to be one sided but more so because Conrad's vision is slanted toward academics.

Conrad athletics are on the rise. Having a winning season and a meaningful game as your season finale are huge steps. Winning football games isn't easy.

One more correction to this statement would be that Conrad students must reside within the Red Clay School district. It is not a lottery but instead students must meet certain criteria to gain admittance. As with every rule there are obviously exceptions.

Sadly, DMA, known more for academics then sports, doesn't pick athletes ( wish they did cause they'd win a lot more). preference goes to Red Clay school district ( just like conrad) then siblings, then state lottery.

It takes time to build a program at the high school level these days, not just football, but all sports. Conrad has made the state tournament in a few sports and football's not that far off. DMA was a really good team this year that should be in the state final, so there's no shame in losing to them.

They do pick athletes i know first hand so don't try and say they don't want to use the word recruit because I know that coaches don't do that in Delaware

The intent of my post was to open up a healthy dialog about something other than today's scores. I'm hopeful that we won't turn this into a discussion about who and who does not recruit. I'm sure we each have our own thoughts on the topic but unless there is proof beyond a shadow of a doubt confirmed by the appropriate folks it's probably not wise to make accusations.

I hope coaches do recruit . It's called caring about your program and promoting your program. As long as you aren't giving out money or gifts I don't see the issue. Bunch of he said she said garbage.

As far as Conrad is concerned I think they are doing just fine . Success takes time .

I can guarantee every successful high school team recruits on some level. The ones that don't are not successful. People can come on here and speculate about which ones do and don't, and I guarantee you its happens downstate but it is harder but upstate is very easy to get it done. People get on here all the time and say this guy does and this doesn't. Coach XYZ doesn't recruit. He does if he has something to sell. Red Clay is the largest district in the state. If you are a good football player and you live in the district and have even decent grades. You going to Dickinson and McKean to play or are you applying to go to DMA, which is a private public school ask St. Mark's where all their players are, where are going? Talk to a principal. If a 6'2,175 lb eighth grader takes a tour of your high school, the football coach is standing there and you think he isn't selling that kid on his program. You are living in a dream world.

Make sure to return that to Bummy so he can put it back underneath his pillow

The pictures I've seen of the old wilmington ballpark are really cool. Way before my time though .

LOL white boy bubble butt football.. Sallies 2015... JK

I have seen this film before. It was put on youtube but Bob LaFazia who has the Allstate site of Facebook.
PS is using the single wing and Wilmington High was "real modern" by having the QB under center. I don't think either offense puts a man in motion or spreads anybody.

rr, the Sals Offense is Don Coryell like compared to the ones in the film. (OK, a little bit of an exaggeration.)

Those HS senors from that 1950 film were born in 1933. They are 82 now. Wow.

...didn't realize they had the forward pass integrated into the game yet LOL

and oh btw....many a post ago there was talk of BDN/Elite tier Coach...I was messin with all.
He is and JMHO-I believe when all said and done, he will be in Delaware Sports HOF. His total body of work when it is over will be even more impressive than what he has already accomplished.

....now its tourney/turkey time!

I assume some of the senorita's are 82 as well?

Must have been a nice time to be a high schooler. No police stationed in the schools back then. P.S; why doesn't some coach try the single wing? Only team I am aware of using this is or was Cleonia, NJ. I saw them in the NJ Group III playoffs. I wish somebody in Delaware would at least put in an option attack like hundreds of schools in the South use.

One other thing to consider. A lot of the guys playing that Thanksgiving Day were probably drafted the next June for Korea. They were the tail end of the Greatest Generation.

Archbishop Curley (md) runs a lot of single wing plays.. I believe IR did as well a couple years back not sure if they still do..

True, I had picked Conrad to beat The Slowskys in a close one that day. Based on the brief write up we see the game was played at the old Wilmington Ballpark.....the Baynard Stadium of that era.
I suppose you are have them losing soccer tonight and also had Charter all the way for CC title
