I saw the coaching a little different. I was lamenting some of the Smyrna coaching decisions. The coaches know the kids and opponent a lot better than I do so I trust that they did what they thought was best. After scoring a touchdown with the wildcat, I was surprised to see the big package go off the field on THE critical two point conversion. Last week, Knight had a lot success going off the edge (sometimes with pulling lineman) in those situations. They did go to it after a penalty, which resulted in another penalty that took them too far out. During the game, I wondered why we kept pounding Knight up the middle when they were stopping it, and we had Henderson and his corps of receivers. I thought Sallies did a good job preparing for both Knight and Richie. I did like the halfback pass play. Sallies did a good job using Reeder as a decoy and then going somewhere else. I thought Smyrna might have done a little more of that with Knight. Overall, I thought the play calling for Smyrna was quite conservative. But all's well that ends well as they say. Lastly, I have mentioned several times that Smyrna's biggest opponent was themselves with the penalties. Well, job well done today. In my mind that kept them close with a chance to win. Good job to the boys and coaches for cleaning that up.
