I heard that there was a rather blatant display of disrespect and poor sportsmanship shown at the recent DIFCA awards banquet at Dover Downs. Every time the Smyrna team or a player received an award, a player shook his head and rolled his eyes. It was reportedly so bad that, after a while, people looked at the player after each announcement to see his negative reaction. Could you imagine a Heisman trophy candidate behaving this way after the announcement that the guy sitting beside him had won instead of clapping his hands and, at least outwardly, appearing gracious? Someone close to him needs to teach him the concepts of sportsmanship, respect for a worthy opponent, graciousness in the face of defeat, and generally how to conduct oneself in public. There is more to being a man than lifting weights, winning awards and being older than everyone else. A MAN should be responsible for his actions.
