DIVISION I FOOTBALL PLAYOFF POINTS AFTER WEEK 9

Bonus points have helped put Salesianum out in front in the Division I playoff chance with a week to go.

They will face Division II St. Mark’s, who only offers them the chance for a 4-point victory, but a strong strength of schedule appears to have the Sals in the driver’s seat for the top seed if they can win Thursday night.

William Penn and Smyrna are tight for the second seed, and it could be the strength of Flight A (possible 7th wins for Concord and Mount Pleasant) over the Henlopen North (no additional bonus points available besides Smyrna), that could lend William Penn the upper hand for the other bye.

Middletown and Concord meet in a game that is a virtual pre-quarterfinal for the Raiders. If they lose, the door opens up for the winner of the Mount Pleasant vs. Appoquinimink game, and maybe even Cape Henlopen or Sussex Central to pass them.

Cape Henlopen has a matchup with Sussex Tech that could see the two teams be within a tenth of a index point of each other if the Vikings earn a victory. A.I. duPont’s hopes all but vanished with the Appoquinimink loss.

Sussex Central is only 4 points back of Concord, but by playing a Division II team in week 10, they can only get four points, making it tough to jump the winner of Mount vs. Appo, let alone a team that is currently in the Field of Six.

1, 2 & 3 should win... (And add 1 more bonus point to their opponents)

4 should beat 6 (If 4 does beat 6, then 7 vs. 7 is probably a play in game)

5 should beat 9

Isn't Interboro consider D-2 thought they have less then 1000 students

I'm telling you now - don't be surprised if Concord beats Middletown on Saturday and throw a wrench into the conversation. Appo knocking off Mount, provided Mtown does win Saturday, could lead to a fun weekend for that city.

I have to agree with you Gatekeeper. Concord winning this game would not be an upset. Concord has been plagued with injuries all season and till last week have not had their full team playing. Not to mention A. Roberts only played 1st quarter of MP game and went out when they were up 14-0. G. Roberts didn't play in Sallies game and played 1st quarter of WP, and had over 100 yds in that quarter before sitting back out, because he wasn't physically ready. Athlete for athlete, and the way Middletown has been playing, Concord is the better team on roster. I don't want to jinx them or put more pressure on them then they have, but they have the personnel to do it.

If not, they have an excellent shot next year to take the crown with the majority of their starters returning. I believe they are only losing 2 starting lineman and 1 linebacker and everyone else is back.

So Concord wins and they're in.

I'm a little confused on what happens if they lose. If Concord loses, they'll still likely end up with 4 points (D1 loss, 1 bonus point for MT, 1 bonus point each for Sallies and WP presumably reaching 9 wins). That puts them 6 points ahead of MP. If MP wins, that moves them into a tie with Concord. Concord would pick up a bonus point from MP reaching their 7th win, and MP would likely get a bonus point from Howard winning. So that puts those teams into a tie. Is head to head the tie breaker? If so then MP obviously has that. But they'd still need a Howard victory, correct?

Seems like Appo has a lot more potential for bonus points than MP does this week.

Saturday is the 14th what # does the Concord QB wear? If it is #14, could spell trouble for MT.

Be careful counting out Middletown just because they played poorly against Newark. The previous week Middletown dominated every second of their game against Appo winning 41-0.

I'm definitely not counting them out. Just noting that injuries killed Concord. At full strength, they are a really good team that can go toe to toe with some of the best.

Not saying your wrong but what is everyone basing this Concord resurgence on? The last 2 weeks? Wins over Delcastle and Charter? Weren't they losing to Charter and tied at the half ? Totally healthy wins against Charter and Delcastle aren't impressive. I don't think either team is really that good but Middletown has been the better of the 2 for most of the season .

One thing is for sure though . Grahm Roberts is the real deal. Kid has been impressive all year long .

Your kidding me AI , MT has had the same issues, There is no way they have a better roster, Mt has been without their top back since 3 Qtr 2nd game, that kid was very impressive and all state caliber RB as a junior but a broken leg sidelined him till this week. They missed their all state NG till week 6. Concord may have a lot more to gain this week, point wise MT win or lose don't fall below 4th because of points. MT 28 - Con 13

Middletown vs Sussex Tech is a good matchup

Smyrna and Mount I'm not sure about . The Mount defense has played great the last 2 games but slowing down Smyrna is a different story.

St vs MT will be a crazy good matchup, ST played one hell of a second half against Cape last night lets see if it can carry over to this game. Sure revenge has gotta be on those boys minds

5th & 6th seeds in DI will be irrelevant. Both have already taken a beating by one or more of the top 4 seeds. There is no reason to believe a second beating isn't in their future.

Here's what I have (my Polish math at work):

1) Sals 5.9
2) WP 5.9
3) Smy 5.7
4) MT 5.5
5) ST 5.0
6) MtP 4.5

Out:
7) Concord 4.4
8) Cape 3.66
