Little skeptical about Lake winning out tbh. Glasgow will be a tough opponent. Also doesn't Friends have a bye week 9? So 9-0 Jeff ;)

Thoughts? a 5-5 team may get in on points,,, That would be St Marks if they win the games they should

The game to watch this weekend (strictly from a logjam standpoint) is Friends-Tatnall. Somehow if Tatnall pulls this off, finishes 8-2 and Friends finishes 8-1, who gets left out of the playoff picture?

St Marks going to win that one IMO & St E's. Sallies and STG not so much.

So 5-5 get STM in? If they had beat Newark or Lake they would be in for sure.

Besides dropping to D2 not sure how anyone would think St Marks would be that good this year. Lost the entire starting backfield, 3 of 4 top wide receivers, most of the O and D lines plus all the linebackers to graduation. Plus one of the top linemen transferred out.

Oldtimer22...i think most of us assume that teams like St Marks and Sallies will just re-load each year. Both always lose a lot of players and they are almost always back the next year as one of the best teams in Div 1. So when St Marks drops to Div 2, we expected them to reload again plus have a mostly D2 schedule. Granted St Marks probably had one of the toughest schedules of any D2 teams coming into the season, but i for one still expected St Marks to be one of the best teams.

St. Mark's enrollment numbers are way down and supposedly next year isn't looking great either. The days of St. Mark's reloading are over for now.

St Marks only has 9 freshman even playing this year. Only 51 playing football and I think 16 are seniors. Last years senior class was pretty strong in most sports. Too bad the baseball coach did not see it. They cut 3 seniors that had made the varsity team as juniors played underclassmen over seniors that were probably better and paid for it in the state tournament. I really think stuff like that gets around and effects the enrollment. I do not think football has those issues but most kids play multiple sports so it has some effect. I also think the style they play in basketball causes kids not to want to go there and play. Their style is painful. Sallies used to play like that changed and look what is going on with that program. Bottom line is you get a great education at St Marks but sports is a huge part of high school life. There are too many other options and St Marks is losing out.

I think the charter schools and DMA, Conrad have really hurt St. Mark's. High quality education for free. Why pass that up? Baseball has always gotten a bad rap there as far as cutting kids. It happens. It's always been a top program and kids get cut. Playing baseball there is a privilege in my opinion. I don't think football has any issues. Coach Wilson does a really good job as far as I'm concerned. Some trolls on here don't think so. Don't even get me started on basketball. I haven't gone to a game in years because it is painful to watch.

There are several strong teams that will make it interesting.... It will come down to the last weekends. I agree Friends/Tatnall is a great match up to watch. Do not underestimate Tatnall,

Conrad, DMA, are programs that is getting better each season and will make things happen.

Charter concept hurting or depleting more than St Marks. Many other nice schools irrelevant now because of this new thinking. Should be no need for a "charter school" if the education pros did it right. It's a clear bussing dodge

Dude couldn't agree more they seemed to de-emphasize sports. My kids is at Caravel a great school but also very focused on sports which I like.

Not sure if he is going to HS at Caravel but it is definitely an option.

Charter and Tech schools in Delaware have the advantage of being selective as to who they let in. No matter how you slice it, this places them on a similar footing as private schools. If you take a look at the demographic breakdown of the Red Clay District,in particular the high schools. I can see how someone might call it a busing dodge. I don't think it is, I honestly think parents are just trying to find better educational opportunities for their children. However, how about fixing or closing the schools that are broke? The present model isn't working, maybe smaller more focused schools are the way to go.

This is a great suggestion, but heads up arses in education would never go for it. I can also safely say that the lack of a public high school or two within Wilmington city limits, a decades-old issue now, continues to be a problem.
