St. Georges 40 Howard 14

The Division II game hasn't been competitive since 2012 when Caravel defeated Hodgson 39-29. I don't see much changing this weekend. St. Georges running back Gary Brightwell has been basically unstoppable this year. This championship game is a rematch of the week 2 Flight B match up where the Hawks were victorious 35-14. In that game Junior running back Brightwell rushed for 161 yards and 2 touchdowns. Look for him to have another big game and St. George's will claim their 1st division II state championship in football.

Salesianum 35 Smyrna 30

I'm making this pick regardless of whether or not Nolan Henderson is cleared to play. Hopefully he is cleared to play in the game. The best two players on the field Saturday will be running back Will Knight from Smyrna and running back Colby Reeder from Salesianum. Sallies will be missing quarterback Garrett Cannon due to a broken ankle but their offense shouldn't miss a beat with Reeder seeing a bunch of carries. If Henderson is playing Smyrna does have the advantage throwing the football but in my opinion the game will be on the shoulders of Will Knight just like last week at William Penn. I don't think we will see another 76-56 track meet game like we did in week 3 because both defenses have improved since then. The Smyrna defense proved last week that they can hold up physically and they will need to do so again this weekend in order to win. I'm giving the edge slightly to Salesianum because of Reeder and a stronger defense. Sallies has the best offensive line in the state and they will give Reeder and Jarome just enough room to get a close victory on Saturday afternoon.

Last week 3-1

fof123...Although I disagree with your D-1 pick, I like the fact you gave some rationale for your selection. I don't think that Reeder will get more than 200 yards (that's crazy to be downgrading a back to only 200!) and last time a few timely passes by Cannon made a big difference in the game. Henderson won't throw three picks again and Knight will be more productive. With the improved Smyrna defense, still explosive offense that is due to get back to their pre-Penn first half ways, renewed options in the wildcat given it's recent success, agile and flexible coaching staff, and an intangible something about the team that makes me feel that they won't be denied, I have to go with Smyrna. I look for a free wheeling up tempo approach from Smyrna free from pressure. I think the Sals team will carry the burden of being the favorite, long time history of excellence, pressure of compensating for loss of original QB, feeling the need to defeat the upstart Smyrna program that is crashing the party of the usuals, etc. I think uncharacteristic turnovers will plague Sals and Smyrna wins by a comfortable margin.

Sallies was the favorite all year long and only Middletown (instate) really had a chance to beat them . Smyrna lost by 20 so I don't count them . Game might have been closer than the score but it was still a 3TD game.

Smyrna last week proved that they are legit again. I wasn't impressed after their win over Mount Pleasant. Last week I was really impressed by the physical play of Smyrna. Offense and defense.

The Sals offensive line is really good and they don't get enough credit . Reeder is really good but the blocking is awesome up front. This is no knock on Reeder but behind that line a good running back will get his yards.

Should be a great game. The way this season has gone I wouldn't be shocked by any outcome.

FYI : I almost picked Smyrna 41-35. Just couldn't go against the Sals. For the reasons already mentioned. Plus I kind of feel like a hypocrite after picking Penn last week (bad pick). Bottom line is game could go either way.

If you have a kid or family playing good luck to you. I hope all these young men and families realize what a great thing this is for them (win or lose).

I got two pups in the kennel so thanks. Winning is so less important than coming off the field healthy. Good luck to both squads. Fine young men.

My prediction I think Sallies gets the edge final Salesianum 38, Smyrna 31 . Good luck to both teams should be a great game.
