FANOFFOOTBALL WEEK 5 PICKS

Rankings

DI

1. William Penn 4-0

2. Salesianum 3-1

3. Middletown 3-1

4. Smyrna 3-1

5. Sussex Tech 4-0

DII

1. St. Georges 3-1

2. DMA 4-0

3. Lake Forest 2-2

4. St. Mark’s 2-2

5. Howard 3-1

Conrad 43 St. Andrews 7……Conrad needs to get its offense going again and should against St. Andrews. Conrad has only scored 1 offensive TD in its last 2 games and was crushed by Milford 36-0 last week.

Caravel 28 Archmere 13…….Both teams are 1-3 but still could make some noise in DII considering all the parity. Caravel won last year 23-13 and hasn’t lost to Archmere since 2010. I’m going with the Bucs.

St. Georges 38 McKean 8…….McKean has rebounded nicely from a 0-10 season last year and stands at 2-2 so far this year but St. Georges looks to be the top team in DII right now. Hawks looked impressive last week at DI CR churning out 439 rushing yards against the Riders and should roll in this one.

St. Mark’s 17 DMA 14………The Spartans need this win badly and get it riding the strength of their defense. The Spartan defense is only allowing 9.8 pts. per game and hasn’t allowed an opponent to score more than 19 points in a game this season. St. Mark’s won 35-6 last year and has never lost to DMA holding a 4-0 record all time against the Seahawks.

Tower Hill 34 Red Lion 7…….After an impressive win over rival Tatnall last week the Hillers shouldn’t have any problem in this one.

Dover 56 Polytech 7…….Dover wasn’t very impressive last week against Smyrna but Polytech is struggling badly this season. Polytech upset Dover last season 24-21. Should be a happy Homecoming for the Senators.

Laurel 28 Indian River 6……Indian River will be the more rested team but if Laurel plays to their potential they win the game. Both Laurel losses have come to DI teams in Sussex Central and Sussex Tech.

Milford 49 Seaford 0……..Milford wins and gets to 4-1. The Bucs play Indian River next week in what is probably a very winnable game and gives them a chance to be 5-1 going into their last 4 games. They end the season playing Laurel, Woodbridge, Delmar and Lake Forest.

Salesianum 23 Middletown 19…..Sallies is the more tested team playing a much tougher schedule so far this season. The Sals have wins over CR, Smyrna and Cardinal O’Hara PA and will be looking to rebound from a disappointing loss to Father Judge PA last week. The Cavaliers have breezed thru their last 2 games against outmatched opponents in Delcastle and Charter. They also have a win over CR and lost in week 2 against William Penn 13-7. The Sals have won 9 out of the last 15 against Middletown and hold a 3 game winning streak in the series. If the Middletown defense plays the way they did against William Penn they will have a great chance to win this game. Last year Salesianum defeated Middletown 31-17 in a game where Salesianum RB Colby Reeder had 112 yards and 2 TD. The Cavs defense will make it hard on Reeder to gain yardage but he’s impossible to hold down for a whole game. He’ll make enough plays to be the difference in this one.

Smyrna 48 Howard 16……Howard’s defense has played great the last 2 weeks allowing just 13 points in wins over McKean (32-6) and Hodgson (28-7) but stopping Smyrna is a different story. Smyrna is averaging 54 points per game led by QB Nolan Henderson and RB Will Knight. The pass happy Eagles showed they could run the ball last week vs. Dover. Knight rushed for 254 yards and 5 TD in a 40-14 Smyrna triumph.

Sussex Central 26 Cape Henlopen 22……Cape is untested and Central owns this series. Sussex Central is 10-1 vs Cape in the last 11 matchups including a 35-21 win last year.

Concord 28 Newark 16…….Concord got things going against Appo in the 2nd half last week. The Raiders trailed 21-14 at the half but outscored Appo 18-0 in the 2nd half. The running game led by Grahm Roberts and Brandon Dennis gets it done for the Raiders. Newark is coming off a win over old Flight A rival Glasgow and will try to defeat Concord for the 1st time since 2011. Concord won 27-0 last season.

Hodgson 47 Dickinson 0……It’s Hodgson’s Homecoming and Dickinson is yet to score a single point in 2015. Romper!

Mount Pleasant 34 Charter 14……Mount Pleasant offense will be too much for Charter to handle.

A.I. DuPont 24 Delcastle 12……AI wins if they contain Ahmere Dorsey. Dorsey has 6 TD in Delcastle’s last 2 games.

Glasgow 29 Brandywine 6……..Brandywine has really struggled this season and at times the Dragons have looked very good. Glasgow has Lake Forest, Howard and St. Georges still remaining on their schedule and can’t afford to overlook the Bulldogs.

Tatnall 28 Christiana 16……With 2 wins this season Christiana has matched their total victories over the past 3 seasons but I don’t see them getting that 3rd win this week. Tatnall gets back on track after losing to rival Tower Hill last week.

Lake Forest 22 Delmar 14……..This just doesn’t seem to be Delmar’s year and Lake wins at home against their Henlopen South rival.

Sussex Tech 34 Caesar Rodney 12…….Since their opening win over AI 27-26 the Ravens have outscored their opponents 110-20 over the past 3 weeks. The Sussex Tech run game is very good and CR struggles to stop the run.

William Penn 41 Appo 14…….William Penn keeps on rolling against an improving Appo team. The Colonials have won 16 straight games.

Friends 24 St. Elizabeth 19………Once again Friends is undefeated although their wins have come against opponents sporting a 5-12 overall record. Friends has outscored those opponents 130-36 and hasn’t lost a regular season game since 2013. The last 2 weeks the Vikings have held leads at the half but failed to win either game. Last week they were leading DMA 21-6 at the half and the previous game they led Conrad 6-0 at the break. If St. E can put together a full game they could have a chance at an upset in this one.

Last week 16-6

Season 53-25
