Fanoffootball Week 9 Picks

Rankings

DI

1. Salesianum 7-1

2. William Penn 7-1

3. Smyrna 7-1

4. Middletown 6-2

5. Sussex Tech 7-1

DII

1. St. Georges 7-1

2. Lake Forest 6-2

3. DMA 8-0

4. Howard 6-2

5. Friends 8-0

Perkiomen School (PA) 35 St. Andrews 6………….Perkiomen defeated Tower Hill earlier this year 18-13 and St. Andrews is winless on the season.

Red Lion 18 Seaford 6…………Seaford has scored just 8 points this season and has been shutout in 5 straight games.

Appo 30 AI. DuPont 28………Both of these teams are allowing 28 points or more per game this year. AI is on a nice streak of wins having won 4 out of the last 5 games including an upset victory over Mount Pleasant 26-20 last week. Appo has won 2 out of their last 3 games but they were outmatched last week against crosstown rival Middletown 41-0. AI won last year 40-20 and is 4-0 all-time against Appo. Both teams enter the game at 4-4 and still have a shot at the playoffs. The loser of this game is most likely out of the playoff picture. Appo bounces back from last week’s loss and wins this game in a tight one.

Glasgow 34 Dickinson 6………Dickinson got their 1st win of the season last week against Christiana but this week they run into a Glasgow team that has lost back to back games to DII top 5 teams in Lake Forest and Howard. Glasgow finishes the season against St. Georges next week.

St. Mark’s 31 St. Elizabeth 14……..The Spartans have won this game the last 2 years in easy fashion. Last year St. Mark’s defeated the Vikings 35-0 and the previous year 31-0. This season should be more competitive but St. Mark’s seems to be playing their best football right now. St. Mark’s since losing to DMA 49-21 four weeks ago has wins over Caravel (28-14) and Hodgson (24-0) and a narrow loss to DII #1 St. Georges (20-16). Since 2004 St. Mark’s is 10-1 against St. Elizabeth’s with the lone Vikings win coming in 2011 49-35. Spartans win this one and prepare for the Holy War with Salesianum.

Salesianum 35 Sussex Tech 14……..On the surface this might look like a letdown game for Salesianum. That’s not happening. Salesianum will be looking to avenge a 33-27 loss last year in the playoffs to Sussex Tech. In that game last year Colby Reeder scored 4 TD for the Sals. He should have another big night on Friday. Sussex Tech also has a stud RB in Patrick Griffin and he will have to have a huge night if the Ravens want a shot at an upset. Griffin had 2 TD last week in a 42-27 win over Dover. I think Reeder gets his yardage and the underrated Sals defense doesn't let Griffin go wild.

Delmar 23 Milford 21……….Delmar continues to lose close games. Last week it was to Indian River 21-20. Delmar has lost 5 games this year by 10 points or less. I think they find a way to win this one at home against the Bucs.

Sussex Central 27 Dover 21……….Dover is capable of winning this game but Sussex Central is the more consistent team with a better defense. The Dover defense has allowed 35 or more points in 5 games this year and the Golden Knights will score just enough to win.

Lake Forest 26 Indian River 14…….Lake Forest is the best team in the Henlopen South division and they will defeat Indian River for the 3rd straight season.

Middletown 36 Newark 7……..Newark has not fared well against the top teams in Flight A this season losing to Mount Pleasant (35-34), Concord (47-8) and William Penn (42-14). Unfortunately for them that trend will probably continue this weekend. Middletown is healthy and playing great defensively right now. The Cavaliers are only allowing 6.8 points per game this year and have registered 3 shutouts. Only William Penn with 13 points and Sallies with 20 points have scored double digits against Middletown. Middletown won last season 49-21 and hasn’t lost to Newark since 2011.

Caesar Rodney 35 Polytech 7………CR only has 1 win this season but Polytech is really struggling this year.

Smyrna 56 Cape Henlopen 7……..Smyrna is averaging 53 points per game and is 4-0 in conference play outscoring their conference foes 192-49 in 4 blowout victories. Smyrna won’t be tested again until the playoffs with only 1 remaining game after this week against winless Polytech.

Woodbridge 31 Laurel 18………Woodbridge on senior night gets another win to improve to 6-3 almost assuring themselves of a playoff berth. Woodbridge has won 3 straight Henlopen South division games and finishes the regular season next week at Delmar.

McKean 30 Brandywine 12……..McKean is 3 points from a 4-4 record this year with 2 close losses to Conrad and Hodgson. That’s a great improvement for a team that finished 0-10 last season. This week they get their 3rd win of the season against 1-7 Brandywine.

Concord 41 Delcastle 14……..Concord rallied from a 14-0 deficit last week against Charter to win 44-28 behind the 4 TD of RB Grahm Roberts. A win would improve Concord to 6-3 with a regular season ending matchup against Middletown next Saturday morning.

St. Georges 48 Christiana 7………St. Georges breezes in this Flight B mismatch. Website says this game is a possible Christiana forfeit??

DMA 28 Archmere 21…………..Archmere enters this game on a 3 game winning streak with wins over Delmar (41-21), Conrad (42-14) and Academy of New Church (35-12). Expect Archmere to play this game like it’s a playoff game because basically it is for them. Archmere defeated DMA 13-0 last year and holds a 6-0 record all time against the Seahawks. DMA should get their 1st win ever in the series but I don’t think it will be easy.

Caravel 24 Hodgson 16………..These are 2 teams having down years by their standards but this should be a very competitive game.

Howard 32 Mount Pleasant 27…….Even though these teams are now in different divisions they are no stranger to each other. Howard holds a 9-2 advantage since 2004 although Mount Pleasant did win last year 13-6. Howard has a good running game and offensively they have scored 30 or more points in 5 games this season. Their only losses are to St. Georges and Smyrna. Mount Pleasant is coming off back to back losses to Middletown and AI DuPont.

Tatnall 27 Conrad 14……..Tatnall has won 4 out of the 5 meetings against Conrad and the Hornets offense is in high gear this season averaging 37 points per game. Tatnall finishes the season against winless St. Andrews and has a legitimate shot at ending the season at 7-3 if they get past Conrad.

William Penn 48 Charter 7………..William Penn gets back on track after having their 19 game winning streak snapped by Salesianum last week.

Last week 18-4
