There's something special about certain venues to watch agame. Here's my top 5 (in no certain order).

Salesianum - especially against St Marks and St E
Dover - they did a great job with the new gym
Tatnall - unfortunately team has been down so haven't been for a while
Delcastle - old school gym. Love the scoreboard hanging from ceiling.
Polytech - great spirit, loud fans

I'm partial to Howard's gym being an alum - there was just something special about that one-sided set of bleachers the big Wildcat on the wall and the atmosphere. When we knew Wilmington High (RIP), A.I. and Hodgson were coming, we'd stay in the library for 3 hours then walk over to the gym to get a seat before anyone else walked in.

As an impartial observer now, nothing beats Appo's or Smyrna's gyms for space and creature comfort, but Mount's little gym has a fabulous atmosphere as does Sanford, the new gym at St. E's and Sallies.

I have only been in a few of the Delaware gyms but the Tatnall gym is very nice. I understand that the game experience may not be much because of how they play but aesthetically a nice spot. Dover gym reminds me of a college facility...it is very well done. I don't necessarily care for Sanford's gym. While the team and the games are exciting, I think the gym lacks in both comfort and character.

Good thread idea.

Cape has a great facility as well. I can't get past the fact that sallies' gym is at Sallies- can't be an objective observer on that one!

St Marks has one of the best gyms in the state. Appo and Cape have nice new gyms.
Have to disagree on St. Marks' gym. Over half the seats there are beyond the baselines! Why did they leave the prime seating area on one side completely open?! No seats at all between the two foul lines. Really a dumb setup in an otherwise spacious place.

I prefer the bigger gyms that give you more of an opportunity to get a ticket at the door. A lot of these smaller gyms don't offer ticket sales at the door which leave many people no chance at getting into some really good games.

It's rough, like you really have to budget a lunch hour to run over to a smaller school and get a ticket or two. Honestly I think if the Chase Center Arena project ever happens, DIAA should move some bigger games to there so more people have a chance to see the games.

Dover new gym is very large seats 2500 but has enough room to add bleachers up to 4000 seats.

I guess I'm just old school but I would rather the game be at the school. And I've been shut out of plenty of games. Remember going to CR for a Henlopen championship, standing outside in line for an hour and not getting in. And many other times...

But even with that, it's just cool being in a high school gym. Just a different feel than an arena like the Bob.
