I can't believe the first games will be starting up in only a week very excited for another season of Delaware High School football wishing all kids a healthy season and good luck to all teams competing - SingleWingNut :p

Speaking of first games, anyone have any idea on which games will be featured in the kickoff classic this season? There's always a northern and southern game played on Thursday now. Wouldn't mind trying to squeeze in another game next week

Kick Off Classics Thurs Sept 8th

McKean at St E's (Baynard) 7pm
AI Dupont at Sussex Tech 7pm

Despite the drive, that A.i./Tech game could be interesting, but with how badly AI looked against sallies in the scrimmage, idk if it would be competitive enough for the gas

The kick off classics have always been less to be desired.. for whatever reason they try to spread it around and dont feature the best first game match ups,, whether its them or coaches not willing to give up the extra day of prep.. I have no idea but a good idea is being squandered for whatever reasons

Do you think the defending state champs in each Respectable division has a legitimate shot in repeating for another State Title Howard opens up against Archmere
and Smyrna opens up against Delcastle

I would say yes to both.
Not many people saw those 2 teams winning it all last year. I know some people thought Smy was going to be good, but I don't recall many folks seeing Howard as a contender.

IMO Howard caught lightning in a bottle and won because of a very weak D2 field and took advantage of a St Georges team who took them too lightly and weren't prepared..Not taking anything away from those Howard kids because they did it when it mattered. Just don't think they have enough this year to do it None the less this is another year and I think they will make the play-offs but won't get too far..

Smyrna on the other hand is the odds on favorite

I think Smyrna was able to catch a lot of people by surprise because they had a lot more talent than what's typical for them and their offense was something that was beyond what a lot of Delaware teams were used to dealing with.

Which is why ECAravel intrigues me. Is ECA bringing their offense to ECAravel? And is that offense like Smyrnas in that it's not a conventional DE type of offense? Does anyone know?

Delcastle has struggled over the past 20 years. I believe Smyrna dropped like 60 on them last year. The world would be a better place if Smyrna opened at Concord and Brandywine opened at Delcastle.

I do often wonder, considering Delcastles location, why they cant draw athletes like HVT, Howard and St G.. Actually it may be the location ..They are in Little Mexico though lol.. Soccer team should be boss

What teams do you see in both divisions as legitimate Contenders for the title obviously D1 the usual suspects in Sallies Middletown and Smyrna, But how Wide open will D2 be this year. Last year i thought it was crazy how any team could win the Title in D2 so what teams what would you consider a contender other than ECAravel

Go read the preseason prediction threads.. this has been discussed on here.. as for the ECAravel nonsense there are at least a half dozen teams who got a boost from ECA kids matriculating there. Smyrna getting the best boost

Thanks for directing people to the correct thread. It's not like you yourself had just been talking about favorites in prior posts on this very thread.

I think Smyrna got the best of the bunch but Smyrna was loaded anyways and would have finished 2nd to Middletown regardless. Caravel, properly known as ECAravel, is a different story because their ECA transfers took them from a borderline .500 team in D2 to a possible contender....in D2. Hence the boost for ECAravel is the biggest

Caravel was already a contender based on what they brought back.. if your read the predicitons most had then up high before the ECA kids were known to have transfered there.. Reall

As per the rumors CA is changing their offense to ECA;s and what not .. No they will run the same run plays and switch to a spread O when they want to pass only its just a set and kids running routes and not a zone blocking scheme that has runs and reads as well .. Barker will have to just drop back and find the open guy,, pre snap reads, none of that,.. CA will only go as far as their line will take them

RR I'm going to agree. I think people are taking the ECAravel thing a little too far. From looking at their roster, they only have 3 kids from ECA on the team. I believe they all have Delaware youth league roots and the kids in Delaware have played against them before at one point of time. They were all pretty good players, but not ECAs cream of the crop.
