Could think of a couple of other coaches more deserving of the honor.John Reed -Caravel
Great job Coach!
He is an outstanding motivator but the honor should be awarded to the individual who developed a great team with the least talent. I would say he would not be considered using that criteria. There are probably coaches more deserving or at least as deserving every year.. Reed has a good case though
just curious what GREAT talent does he have? Yeah he has good players but no D1 kids.. He lost his QB week one had to go with a very young Freshman and started 1-3.. Ran off 7 straight wins which included beating Archmere, St Marks, HVT and Cape to make the play-offs. Then knocked off undefeated 2 ranked Glasgow ... This years team is no where near as talented as some of CA's teams in the past. A very good core of players yeah but not anything anyone else doesn't have in D2.. well at least the top 10 teams anyway.. Larkins is a great player but lacks size. CA was actually pretty small in the skill positions.. Quick but small.. Granger was a tough hombre at corner and tackled well and defended well..He is an outstanding motivator but the honor should be awarded to the individual who developed a great team with the least talent. I would say he would not be considered using that criteria.
well they have the most talent in D2 this year.. but yeah he is very deserving and will likely get the nod with DIFCA if he wins tomorrowManlove-Woodbridge
The privates have a broader area to feed their program. There is a higher potential for quality talent with more players from which to choose.just curious what GREAT talent does he have? not really.. the kids have to test in and be able to pay tuition... more kids get denied entry into CA than get accepted every year,, I am sure its the same for Sallies as well.. CA has 35-40 kids in the football program every year and many players play both ways.. there is no depth, and they cant put a viable scout team up vs the 1st teamers in practice..Go watch a practice when they scrim.. every play goes to the house and the 1st D team swallows up the scout O.. Its essentially a waste of time.. not Saying CA doesnt get some good players in there they do,, There are parents who have good players and students who see the value in sending their kids there.. no one gets a free ride though.. there isnt a ton of financial aide to go around 10 to 20% is about itThe privates have a broader area to feed their program. Actually outstanding motivator is not something I would attribute to Reed,, I am friends with the coach so its not a knock. Reeds strengths are from the leadership and management perspective. He hires good coaches and lets them do their job, he is very good at the politics, dealing with the parents. boosters, alumni and press which shields his assistants and allows them to do their jobs without the drama.. He cares about and loves the kids immensely. Willing to take the arrows for the program. Bleeds Caravel colors. Perfect head coach for the job at a small private like CA.. imoHe is an outstanding motivator but the honor should be awarded to the individual who developed a great team with the least talent. IMHO the best private coach is Tatters from Friends. That guy has done a great job and his in game coaching is fantastic. He should be getting a serious look.Actually outstanding motivator is not something I would attribute to Reed,, I am friends with the coach so its not a knock. agree.. but the 1290 FM coach of the year is not the DIFCA coach of the year its just the radio jockeys choice.. They felt Reed did a great job coaching overcoming the injuries and bad start .end of storyIMHO the best private coach is Tatters from Friends. So what do they base the award on?Plus to win it with 1290 the team had to be one of the teams the called during the year. They covered a small amount of teams especially D2 teams.
true but I dont think its a D1 and D2 award..but I could be wrongPlus to win it with 1290 the team had to be one of the teams the called during the year. They covered a small amount of teams especially D2 teams.
on who they think the coach of the year is based on games they covered maybe?..but I am not sure about that as they rank all the teams.. who knows? So what do they base the award on?
