No respect for Milford. I watched that team go nose to nose with DMA for one half of football before taking it on the chin in the second half. They may be on the wrong side of the IR game but I suspect it will be a much closer contest than a lot of predictions I have seen.

Lake & Laurel will definitely be closer than that. Lake won on a last second heads up play against a winless Delmar team last week. The offense is very predictable and doesn't have the weapons it's had in the past. Also think Milford beats IR. Outside of DMA, IR will be Milfords toughest opponent to date. That's just sad....

Middletown 27 A.I. DuPont 0
Lake forest 9 Laurel 6
William penn 21 Newark 0
IR 7 Milford 6
Conrad 13 MCKEAN 0
Delmar 7 Archmere 13
Cape 21 dover 0

Foreman's second effort gets into the end zone. Two points good. 15-12 IR up on Milford with 5:17 left in the gam

Blue Hen Conference Flt A is soooo top heavy.

Just for this one year, I think. Middletown and Concord have usually been the strongest and while Penn is experiencing a resurgence, Mount and Appo are complete surprises. It'll be a shame when two or three (depending on Cape's finish) misses the playoffs, but that's parity for you.

Milford shot themselves in the foot a few times last night. On IR's opening drive, Milford held them to 4th & goal from the 9 yard line and IR lined up to attempt the FG, but the Bucs jumped offside, moving the ball to the 4 and IR brought the offense back out on the field n scored.

Milford returned their first KO return for a TD but had it called back on a phantom block in the back with the returner inside the 5yd line. Flag thrown at around the 10yd line and at was at least 10 yards away from the nearest player. Milford turned it over though fumbling the handoff 2 plays later at the IR 15.

On IR's second possession they took the ball down the field and attempted a 29 yard field goal but it was blocked and returned for TD 89 yards by Son Martinez.

With time running out in the first half, IR had a 1st n goal from the 1 yd line but the Bucs turned them away on 4 tries in what was a huge momentum swing.

IR dominated time of possession in the first half and had to have had the ball for close to 18 minutes.

Milford came out in the 2nd half and drove the ball right down the field and scored to take the 12-7 lead. Their TD came on what appeared to be a broken play in the backfield, but Kimmel spun and ran 15 yds around the left end for the TD.
The defense got cranked up and stopped IR on a 3n out. Disaster struck on 4th down as the punt snap sailed over the punters head and Milford tackled the punter at about the 20 yd line. Milford could not convert though as Kimmel was intercepted at about the 5 yard line.

Teams swapped possessions with Milford taking the lead into the 4th.

Then the excitement picked up as the teams scored 3 times within the last 5 minutes of the game!

IR scored to go up 13-12 and 10 seconds after the play was over they called an unsportsmanlike on Milford with no IR players even close to them so it was obvious it must have been for language. After a 5 minute delay in the action, IR decided to go for 2 as they accepted the penalty on the try and made it 15-12.

Milford botched the kickoff return and was tackled at the 11. On 2nd down, David Bowman took the ball around left end for 50yd run. Two plays later he took it around left end again 39 yards to the house as Milford regained the lead 18-15.

IR took the ball right back down the field gashing the defense with some hard running! The big play though came on a HB pass as the IR receiver went racing past the Milford CB who initially broke on the run but was able to recover and make the tackle at about the 5 yd line as the ball was slightly underthrown. IR scored with 1:04 left in the game.

Bowman nearly took the ensuing KO to the house but just stepped out of bounds after a 40+ yd return into IR territory and had clear sailing up the Milford sideline.

on 3rd down, Milford had a long pass sail through the hands of the receiver that would have taken the ball to about the IR 15 with 30 seconds left. the 4th down pass attempt was well behind the receiver running open 20 yds downfield.

A great HS football game.

William Penn wins 42-14 and ruined Newark's homecoming and continues its win streak to 18 from last year . Also classy act by Penn as Dooley gives coach Simpson a plaque and card for his many years of service congrats coach Simpson.

Appo was defeated by Smyrna 64-0 & Penn also put a licking on them. I would so they are more of a middle of the road team not deserving of a playoff bid.
