Same schedule as last year just flipped, but with players coming and leaving....some big games might not as big or some might be bigger....what's everyone's thoughts on the game they are looking most forward too....or is a there a game that won't be played this season that you wished was played?

If I had to pick a game to be played that won't be, it's obviously Smyrna-Middletown, but I have a strong feeling that game will be played at some point in the post season, so hopefully my pick comes true. If I had to pick a game most looking forward to is the Sals-Smyrna game. How does Smyrna answer after their championship season, and how doesn't he Sals respond after a brutal loss to them. Quite intriguing.

@hs
thanks for throwing the Spartans in there..
going to be a long year for the boys in green...

When it got started back up, Smyrna didn't like how the scoreboard would always look at the end of the game. Lol

Actually I think it was scheduling issues, Middletown usually has one non conference game other than sallies that is played week one or week two, and lately Smyrna has had those dates filled already. And from an insider they weren't going to put Middletown/sallies week 1 to play Smyrna later in the season.

Sals v Eagles probably the most anticipated, but I leaned towards the most intriguing matchup IMHO- Sals v Bucs.
What we have here is a perennial D1 powerhouse that is "Reederless" for the 1st time in 6 years...think that does not matter- think again! Many are expecting the Sals line to pave the way for whoever carries the ball, I will need to see that first. Jarome did a hell of a job and was the unsung hero and you do not just replace a Reeder.

ECAravel is coming off of a rebuilding year and no matter how you see it, they have managed to add talent. The most interesting aspect for me is that this is a D1 vs D2 team and a Sals loss might cost them a playoff bid as I see them as a very competitive .500 squad.

btw- the ECAravel was started for fun, but has any team benefitted as much as they have from transfers?

As best I can figure, here's were ECA players went:
St Frances (Balt, MD) 6-8 players.
Caravel (4 players).
Smyrna (2).
Glasgow.
West Catholic (Philly, PA).
Elkton.
St. Elizabeth.
Pittsburgh and Harrisburg areas.
Did Middletown land one?

I'd say SFA got a lot and some very good kids, Caravel and Smyrna, got some nice additions.

Best of luck to all the former Honey Badgers wherever you finish HS.

This game will take place, sort of. Smyrna is at Middletown on Sept. 1 for a scrimmage. They could probably sell tickets.

RR- I believe game like. I can't remember the last time I saw a MT scrimmage that was controlled.

Concerning my view on Sallies, I've stated before that I think they have the toughest schedule I've seen in a while. They could easily be a .500 team, just as easily as I think they can go undefeated. This year however I believe they will have 1-2 losses at least. It really depends on what Smyrna and Middletown teams show up those nights. I'm not sure about Smyrna, but Middletown was probably the most penalized team last year, which was well deserved, some of the antics and trash talking that was going on last year was embarrassing coming from an alumnist. They aren't going to win games like that.

If my memory is correct, I think the mount pleasant playoff game with Smyrna, they committed a lot, but, penalized or not, I don't see sallies having the athletes that Smyrna does, that's a loss I would say.

The game I look forward to "in the city" is Howard - St. Lizzie's. Oh wait a minute. These teams haven't played in almost 2 decades. That makes no sense. Two city D2 teams that played almost every year now ignore each other. Why? It is beyond Bummy's comprehension! ( Howard is bringing Smyrna to Baynard this year. Say what?)

The last Howard-St. E's game I remember was my senior year of HS (fall of '98), so it's been close to 20 years yes, but I don't know why either. Howard's made a conscious effort to get those D1 points the last couple of years (see Smyrna and Mount Pleasant on the schedule), so that might be a reason. I get a feeling we'll see Howard and St. E's at Baynard in November. Just a hunch.
