Good Article in Time

RR- great read!
....IMHO- this portion of the article was the most disturbing

"A growing body of research shows that intense early specialization in a single sport increases the risk of injury, burnout and depression. Fees and travel costs are pricing out lower-income families. Some kids who don’t show talent at a young age are discouraged from ever participating in organized sports. Those who do often chase scholarships they have a minuscule chance of earning."

The math in the article that caught my eye, and the drum I have been beating for years was so simple "The odds of getting a scholarship is 2%" So, unless your kid is the best player at his level, don't waste your time and money. Be a parent, teach your child and if they have the talent AND THE DRIVE, they will find a way. Just to put this all in perspective, remember, the best coach in NFL history, brings in guys you have never heard of just because they are multi-sport athletes with high I.Q's.
