Went to Dover High tonight and got there at 6:45 for the scheduled 7:30 title game between Dover and Laurel. Spent 35 minutes driving around the parking lot looking for a spot to park! Finally got a spot around 7:20 when the girls’ game ended. Walked up to the gym and found 150-200 people in the first lobby waiting to get in. Around a third of them already had their tickets, the rest of us did not. Very few people came out after the girls’ game ended. Waited about 20 minutes and none of us had been admitted to the game. The lady in front of me had pictures on her phone sent to her from someone inside the gym - it was “sardine city” in there. Finally gave up - along with many others - and left. Guess it was not a good idea to have a double headed even though Dover’s gym is a great facility.

I got there about 20-25 minutes before the girls' game started, and the place was 3/4 filled with a line of people waiting to get in. I thought it would thin out after the girls ended, but few people seemed to leave.

Double header is the best way to make as much money as possible. If they did it on separate nights, less people would go to the girls game.

SMH at the boys game though. Laurel was exposed for what they are- a nice story but more of a product of a very weak Henlopen South division. 6 of their wins have come against ECHS, Sussex Academy, and IR- who a lot of JV teams would beat.

Money aside- the Henlopen Title games are usually one sided with the better team, representing the Henlopen North, blowing out whoever wins the Henlopen South.

To me Dover was playing J.V team lastnight.. Laurel will be gone early.. Dover could of easily beat them by 40.. Gave them pass..

Don't matter.. Just talking about right now...
It does matter. They played in front of a heavy Dover crowd at Dover's gym. By far the biggest game any of the Laurel kids have played in. Doesn't mean they're a JV team or they are a weak team. I cannot imagine too many teams that would have gone into that environment starting 3 freshman and a sophomore who win that game. This will be a good learning lesson for those Laurel kids and hopefully their players will use it as motivation over the summer to get better. They don't have a choice what division they are in. Since they are better than they have been, hopefully they can schedule tougher teams for next year to prepare to play in big games.

Everybody wants to talk about Laurel, they very young. they have a senior and a junior. Every other player is either a freshman and sophomore. They played heavy senior team in Dover. If Laurel uses that as a learning tool and motivation they will be a team to contend with in a year or two. They have to stay together and don't become a bunch of individuals or transfer like a lot of kids do these days.

I think Dickinson playing Appo tough yesterday will help them in the tourney too.
Appo’s big guy was not there yesterday - wasn’t even in the gym. Anyone know what was up with that?

If you say so.. Game I watched Friday night.. Laurel is no where near top 5 seed .. Not even top 10 team..

It is no excuse, it’s a fact. They haven’t been good in many years, good reason to have a weak schedule. No one thought for a second they would beat Dover. Why do you seem surprised Laurel lost? I’m on here to help make all these kids better, not down them because they lose games to more experienced teams. I wish both teams luck in the tournament.

You are on an internet message board to make basketball players better? Ha you a funny dude! Laurel had no chance going into that chip. Being a message board chirper didn’t help Laurel. Laurel is lucky to get the first round bye because either way they will lose their first game of the tournament. Woodbridge girls had a better chance going against Dover Friday night. I don’t see Cape complaining about the Dover crowd.

I’m not on the internet to make players better. Nor did I complain about the environment. Laurel wasn’t expected to win the game period. Woodbridge girls were predicted to get blown out just like Laurel. There is no luck to get a first round bye. It’s the same point system that’s even around for years. If you’ve seen Laurel more than that one game, you know they don’t suck. Dover was just better, they have better players and are far more experienced. I’m not okay with grown men coming on here saying kids suck. Laurel has very good young talent. If Laurel loses first round, so be it. If that group stays together, they’ll be right back next year.
