Joe Campbell Story

Joe Campbell had a couple of nice career highlights at the Big S. The winning TD catch against a top rated MD Bel Air team on the road in 1971 and the winning TD catch against Middletown on the road in 1972.

The '72 Sals team remains my favorite of all time. (not the best Sals team by far but some unique talents and a very young HC.)

Three Division One Recruits on that team I believe.

People always wanted to think of Joe as a WR because he was so tall and lean in high school. It's pretty safe to say his true strength was DL. He took it to higher level his senior year and got off the ball very quickly and once he got his long arms on a blocker they could do little with him.

He has some great stories about the Raiders and some of the crazy stuff they did back then but he is just as happy to talk about high school. He thinks our Freshman team was undefeated but we lost one and tied a team from the old St Joe's of Chester that went on to win the Philadelphia City Championship by 50 points when they were seniors....He does not remember it that way.
