Just to close out week 5...

Smyrna has running clock on Howard.....winning 50-6...score on last play of game and go for 2? Even Bummy is Bumfuzzled. Think about that. What is the diff? 50-6. 56-6. 58-6.

So Smyrna wins 56-6. Score 56 on Howard. Scored 56 on the Slowskys. Smyrna shows no respect for The City.

Even if they don't kick what's the point in tacking on a TD at the end?

50-6 wasn't good enough? Whaley had already scored once in the 3rd quarter and has 4 TD this season so it wasn't some bench warmer JV guy getting his only touch.

What's the point?

I'm not a fan.

If you're winning 50-6 at the end of the game you take a knee. Victory formation. Have some class.

If you were a "fan" you would interpret it differently. Actually the team on the field at the end of the game was the backup squad. In most of the games this year, it is up to the backup squad to finish the game. They need game time experience as well. If they happen to score, I'd hardly put that into the running up the score category. Just kids running plays like they have been practicing to do since late summer and this fall. If first team was in, I'd see your point more clearly. 4 TD for the season for Whaley in that offense doesn't earn a sit down in the 4th quarter. These guys are developing a system and looking to sustain that system. Having a potentially all state running back is great but like all players he will graduate. And there is always the risk of injury in football. Developing another back and giving the backup QB playing time is smart football. Especially in a one back offense where there is limited opportunity for anyone but the feature back. Smyrna has gone for 2 pt conversion after every TD this season. Nothing to read into that. Not looking to go back and forth on this so I'll drop the "agree to disagree" flag now.

fan I dont believe they ever kick EP's.. either they don't have a kicker or its part of their offensive philosophy

RR- I think you are correct. And they might wanna start,
Kicking in practice is one thing, kicking in game situation is a whole different animal. Never know when you might need that XP of FG

Fan..........Well said and I agree...........Once running clock starts most coaches put in the 2nd string. Was this the case or did 1st string continue to score after running clock started? If 1st string scored any offense TD's after running clock it is a slap in the face to the opposing team........js

Please see youjustme's response. The second team was in for the 4th quarter.

Smyrna has had many woeful teams over the years so I guess this sort of balances out the scales.

Bummy was reacting to the Sean Greene Twitter and did not have any other info. If it was all 2nd stringers out there then it is not quite as egregious. It still is a little unsettling but it is not quite the same as the killing baby seals scenario.

Based on what we have seen thus far...Smyrna will march through the rest of the schedule. Maybe Sussex Tech can put up some points but how do you hold down the Eagles? Hell, they made the Slowskys dine on a fifty burger.
Maybe William Penn can outscore Smyrna.

I don't care if you had your cheerleaders in the game. It was 50-6. The kid who scored has multiple varsity TD's this season and scored earlier in the 3rd quarter. Not to mention it was the last play of the game. Why score? Taking out years of frustration on Howard? The score was 38-6 at half and 50-6 at the end of 3? A whole half wasn't enough game experience? Give me a break. Load of crap.

If they want to make a statement maybe they should beat a good DI team. It's common practice for these basketball on grass teams to run up the score. Mostly see it on Saturdays. We get it. You have a great offensive system and it works. You wouldn't see Sallies or (insert any other team here) pull that crap. Congratulation you scored 56 points. Awesome.

2nd string offense & defense 4th quarter. The clock ran because the refs didn't stop it at the end of the 3rd quarter, they didn't even have the teams switch sides until 3-4 minutes had chugged off the clock in the 4th. Strange 4th quarter.

#1 Whaley is a Freshman and every player on the field for Smyrna was 2nd or 3rd string... So why not get them some goal line work...

#2 I'd be more concerned about the fact that Smyrna's 2nd and 3rd string had their way against Howard...
