Matthews

Matthews is a smart, clever and adjust well to losing his point guard. He should be in the conversation of POY. Davis, Rawls and Parker are definitely deserving because they took teams that would not have reach the playoffs with out them. Smyrna would have been in the playoffs with or without Matthews because they have great pieces. Garnett is the biggest mismatch on the floor and they don't run plays for him. 14 is a baller. 24 played lights out defense on a player of the year candidate. Then their is the seven footer in the middle. He makes everyone job easier and that is why Smyrna other players are hardly in foul trouble. Allow them to trade places. Would Matthews score 20 if he was on St. Georges last night and he was facing the big fellow and 24 locking him up? What would Parker average if his was on Smyrna? That is how you should analyze it. Davis scored 20 and 30 against some of the best in the Country! Rawls have played lights out against great competition. Matthews had 15 in a lost to Sanford and Davis had 26 against the seven footer.

Donte was POY when he actual had to carry a team. Mikey was POY when he carried a team. Westbrook should be MVP this year because he is carrying OKC.

Hmmm...about that last statement I like Westbrook A LOT & he is carrying OKC but that carrying is only good for a 7-seed in the West currently & you can't win MVP like that. MVPs are often leaned towards the top teams which is why you are hearing James Harden & Kawhi Leonard's name a lot over there in the West. If OKC finishes top 4 in the West & Russ still averaging a triple-double then yes but I don't see him winning it if OKC finishes 6-8 seed. Not to mention there is a guy named Lebron in the East that will surely get some votes.

Prime example is Appo this year...Cale absolutely carries that team but because they were kinda a middle of the pack team you don't hear many people mentioning his name for POY & he is the only player here in DE signed to a big D1 school.

If Westbrook average a triple double and his team does not make the playoffs he still should win MVP only one player in the history of the NBA has achieved that..its a once in a life time thing

The last person to average a triple double Oscar did not win the MVP in that season as well

Westbrook had a triple double last night against the Spurs and Won the Game.

Yes he did...but in an 82-game season he is going to win some of those games where he gets them triple doubles. I'm not saying that he is not the MVP & I'm a fan that hopes he wins it after Durant leaving, but I just think voters lean towards voting for players on the top teams.

I see why Cale was mentioned but being signed can be much more political than being awesome. He's a great player and should do good at Seton Hall, but he hardly let his team to an outstanding season. Mediocre at best. The also lost to st George's in the regular season.

True about Matthews. He has a solid team and that's why they are in the finals. He's a solid player but hardly top in the state yet. #20 did limit him last night and that's what a little pressure will do.

Matthews not POY IMO and would only be mentioned now because the team is in the chip. But that's why there is a team championship and player of the year. If Smyrna wins it proves they had the best team all year, not the best player. They have a system that works. Matthews isn't ready for that honor. He has time.

Matthews limited last night because of pressure?...I thought he was pretty efficient w/ 12 pts & 6 assists taking what the defense gave him. I have saw games where he forces up shots when he is not getting the shots he wants but last night I thought he did a good job. Limited because of pressure would be 4 pts on 1-12 shooting which were Rawls' numbers from last night.

Two great players! Both are well deserving and both will be getting a free education after high school. Hats off to both young men.

Matthews has proven he can be a great scorer but his leadership skills and the growth in his game from being a spot up shooter to a all around player is why I believe he is the MVP this year he really gets his teammates involved
