In the never ending hero worship culture driven world we live in, we are presented with a 10 part series on ESPN starting tonight on Michael Jordan and the Bulls. Of course, Jordan helped make ESPN in the 80s and 90s as we got into a highlight film / sound bite media driven narcissistic culture; that put more value on sneakers than it did scholarship. Jordan is the perfect vehicle for their low IQ audience.

It was beyond pathetic that a couple of weeks ago Jordan was chosen as the greatest college basketball player of all time. Kareem laughed at this as he should have. (Maybe I should stay off this topic.)

...and the GOAT for all of basketball...is
1) King James
2 & 3) tie ..Big O & Kareem
4) Bill Russell
5) Michael Jordan.

Have a nice day.

I agree. Jordan was a very good player during his college days and took it to a higher level in the pros but Jabbar was hands down the most dominant player ever in the college ranks.

Dove, on the point about Jabbar we totally can agree.

Jordan was a great college player, no doubt. He would become an even better pro.

Jabbar, Walton, Robertson, Jerry Lucas, & Magic...each changed college basketball. You can make the case about Patrick Ewing, too.

I will say this about the pro game. Phil Jackson was incredible. His great players became his disciples. Reading X and O stuff that Kobe Bryant discusses...he just goes on and on and on about the "triangle".

OK, Bummy is taking a mental health break...

You forget Lebrons early days in Cleveland when he passed on the game winning shot multiple times. Body language was terrible in the huddles, I’ve always considered Lebron as a player that loved to shed the blame in a cocky not my fault way, imo

We share the same viewpoints on this topic. My friends think I’m crazy.

I understand what your perspective, 84. That happened. Now, there were big plays at the end of Bulls championships were Jordan passes off to Kerr and Paxson and they make game willing shots. Now, if they missed those shots and the Bulls lost would we be laying that rap on Jordan? If so, we would be stunods because Jordan was one of the all time greats.

GodBless1, I think we are in the minority. There is no doubt that Jordan was one of the greatest basketball players of all time ....no doubt or you're from another planet.

Bummy had to go to bed last night, so I missed the second hour. From what I have seen the documentary is going to be fabulous...How the City of Chicago didn't even have a basketball ID until MJ arrived.

Great Television. This documentary contributes a quality history of sports. Great job...I have to watch part 2 on demand.....here is a brief write up of last night's first 2 episodes....

Bummy I agree Jordan wasn't the best player ever in college.. But that top 5 list for pros you got is a joke.. Lol give me these 5 in there prime and you can have the rest of the league..lol
1. Magic - PG
2. Jordan - SG
3. Kobe - SF
4. Shaq - C

Man Bill Russell was good.. But let's keep in real .. Back then it was 8 teams in league.. Give props for all those titles he won but he would never ever won that many titles in a 82 regular games season.. Let's be real

Gentlemen. We are talking history here. The fact that there were only 8 teams in the league equates to the talent being more concentrated in a fewer teams. If you tout MJ's 6 titles in like his 16 years in the NBA...well Russ had 11 NBA titles in 13 years plus 2 NCAA and an Olympic title.

The statement in my 3rd post was for all of basketball in college and NBA history, Hoops, you are misunderstanding or misreading what I said. The NBA started in 1949 but it didn't really start cranking until 55-56.

The All Star team you have presented is very formidable but for the sake of argument my 5 with Russ at power forward ..would be interesting. Of course, we both have Michael Jordan so he would be very busy during the game.

I saw the Big O and Russ plenty of times in person against the Phila Warriors and later the 76ers. My father was an NBA fan who communicated with the old Warriors' owner.

Thanks for your spirited response and have a nice day.

Be sure to watch the Jordan series on ESPN...it is compelling.

The Jordan series continues tonight. It is an extremely well done. Jordan is very open about his eternal pushing and grinding on his teammates.

He truly is the most important player in NBA history and the best athlete in the history of team sports. Terry Francona was amazed that a 31 year old guy who hadn't played baseball in 13 years could play a season at Triple A and bat over .200. Francona said that with 1500 at bats in the minors, training camps and games that Jordan would have made a big league roster...and that he would have been a MLB every day player if he stuck with baseball from his teenage years on.....

OK, I still like Lebron, Oscar, Bill Russell and Kareem as the core 4 of my all time team. I guess the last spot would have to go to Jordan or maybe Kobe Bryant.

Whatever you do...watch the damn series.
