Middle School Boys Basketball

who has the best middle school boys basketball program in the henlopen conference?
Nobody. Middle school basketball is poorly coached. 99% of the time a faculty member picking up a few extra bucks. Best scenario for middle schoolers is a club program with good coaches that focus on development. Another choice, If u have a very talented middle schooler and willing to sacrifice a little financially, I would put them in a private school that has grades k thru 12 and move them to high school fr, JV or varsity for better coaching, development and exposure.

@delawaresportsjunkie, are you getting any kick backs from the privates, lol I don’t remember Jordan, Magic or Lebron going to private schools and they made out just fine....I guess it’s the pay now for High school and hope you don’t have pay later for college haha, how about working just as hard on the school work as you do in the gym, I guess I’m just old school, hope for the best and prepare for the worst

We adults keep saying how bad delaware basketball is and we continue to urge our talent to leave the state. Then we complain about the lack of competition dah we’re sending it away, the kids that leave end up playing in leagues where they are average players. The scouts will find you if you are that good. Once again I’m old school

Jordan no, Michael no, Lebron yes. But not about private schools or leaving the state, not even about academics. Conversation was about good middle school programs and development. I encourage every parent to do what they feel is best for their kids whether it be delaware or elsewhere. I'm bias towards delaware but I have been proven wrong.

84 Delaware basketball is not bad, i believe Delaware institutions are not really invested in sports as anything but recreational, sort of in a ymca league type of way. If the focus in delaware is mainly on academics I see nothing wrong with this. But for those who want the academics and serious sports at the high school level I think it may be best to go somewhere that supports that type of thinking. Every kid that is successful in getting recruited gains that success through AAU. Nobody nationally takes delaware sports serious and I think people in delaware like it that way.

How do you figure 99% is poorly coached I know several good Middle school coaches. Some decent programs...would I make changes yes but you can tell the programs that are typically winning programs.

I know because I watch. Most disticts play a ten game schedule with no playoffs. Practice is limited, and a few may have maybe a custodian or p.e teacher that actually can be helpful and teach some fundamentals. There are exceptions but generally this is the reality. The better skills developers at this age are associated with programs. The better middle school talent are on the circuit in tournaments like Basketball spotlight against tougher competition within the 3 state area. If the parent is only in it for recreation then nothing I'm talking about matters. For those who want to pursue scholarships, middle school ball is just a fun thing for the kids to show school spirit, real competition is on the circuit.

Second that: the Capital Classic is a great Middle School Tournament! I believe any team in the state can participate, so the best can play the best. There is talent at the Middle School level just not enough good coaching to go around. Actually coaching at the middle school level is not the main issue it's the transition to the HS level where it goes south in IMHO.
