new head coach at St. George’s?

RR- you may get your wish. I know they barely made the Div 1 cut-off. I think there was an unusually large freshman class that year. I am thinking they will drop back down. I would think Wilson would welcome the game.

Coach Wilson is one of the best, St. Georges would do well if he came on board.

Also, I'm not surprised St. Georges would come back down. Probably St. Georges and Concord come down, I guess Mount Pleasant goes back up. Can't think of any other Flight B team close to 1000 kids.

If this is true, where did Maul go? I remember last year, their were rumors about him going to Cape, but that obviously never happened. Collick is finally done though, is that a done deal?

Maull said in the News Journal when he stepped down he was tired and taking some time to get his Masters.. But that could have just been coach speak. He did say the travel time was what was tiring though

“I’m tired,” Maull said. “It’s been 11 years. I’m tired, and I can’t give the full commitment that I’ve given in years past. Everybody knows I live downstate, and the drive is a killer.

“I just can’t give the time commitment. Football is a year-round job. For you to be good, you’ve got to do it year round, and I just can’t make the commitment anymore.”

“I’m going to take some time off, get my master’s degree,” Maull said. “I have no problem helping the younger coaches in our building, but I’m going to work on my education.”

That said if I were a betting man I would bet Maull will be wearing the whistle at Cape next season

It would be interesting to see Coach Ritter or Assistant Coach Matthews from Howard take this job. Matthews was an outstanding FB coach at Pencader. He would be ideal for St. Georges.

Ironically Coach Ritter's son goes to St Georges but I believe he graduates this year

St. Georges has more kids than Hodgson, so HVT would come back down first.

HVT has 1125 St G has 1146 per 2017-18 state numbers

2016-17 HVT 1119 St G 1120

The cut off is 1119 the next adjustment will be 2019-2020 (based on 2018-2019 enrollment numbers). Because of how the number is determined it is pretty tough to predict who will be up or down. Because its what ever D1 school in Flight A or Henlopen North has the lowest enrollment sets the number. If a D2 school has a higher enrollment then they come up and other goes down

fyi..

Item 6. Classification (Division I and II) A. The Field Hockey, Football, Soccer and Cross Country Tournaments crown Division I and Division II Champions.

DIAA classifies all schools in Division I that have a DOE certified enrollment count of grades 9 through 12 equal to or greater than the school with the smallest enrollment in either the Blue Hen Conference Flight A or the Henlopen Conference North Division. That number for the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 school years is 1119. This count consists of all students who, if eligible, would participate at that school, including special needs students. Single gender schools have their total enrollment doubled to determine their final enrollment number. All other schools are classified as Division II.

The Division I schools for the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 school years are as follows: Appoquinimink Cape Henlopen Caesar Rodney Charter School of Wilmington Concord Delcastle Dover Hodgson Middletown Newark Padua (girls) Polytech Salesianum (boys) Smyrna St. George’s Sussex Central Sussex Tech William Penn

Looking at the numbers the next cut off could be from the Hen North. Sussex Tech and Poly have a declining trend in enrollment. St G and HVT is increasing trend. Tech dropped 100 students from 2016-17 to 2017-2018 they have 1248 if that trend continues they could come into play. Poly has 1188 so if they drop some and HVT and St G increases they could set the number

Concord has 1182 (doubt they will lose enough to drop)
Newark has 1131 in danger of dropping down might be good for them
MT P has 1024 and a declining trend they will stay D2
Milford 1054 up from 995 (highest D2 enrollment)

Those are all the schools in play to move up or down

So in my final analysis its my opinion Newark will have the lowest D1 enrollment but will stay put in D1 as I don't think any D2 schools will have enough to move over them... So everyone stays put

Good stuff, Double R. Newark and Penn are the only two schools to never move down to Flight B and Howard the only school never to move up to Flight A. Never would've imagined Newark falling off like that.

If Newark were to drop then all the Red Clay and Christina school district schools would be D2. If you include Brandywine then Concord would be the last one standing...

In a football perspective St G is getting big numbers out for football

V-59 JV-33 FR-15 TOT-119

compared to HVT who has had a slight decline in participation

V-52 JV-28 FR-32 TOT- 112

now lets look at Newark :(

V-49 JV-0 FR--0 TOT-49

Now Sallies since they always come up when talking numbers

V-51 JV-50 FR-44 TOT-145

** edited St G as I realized they had 21 players listed twice on the V roster

The 2018-2019 enrollment numbers are due in by the end of September. As soon as the state post them it will be easy to figure out. As I said earlier I don't think any one will be moving this go round

All will be mute if Coaches and DIAA come up with a way to to split and score points for 3 divisions. Divisions would move according to football tradition/ability than enrollment numbers.

Heard Wilson is no longer at St. Mark's as a counselor. Did the move happen?

He’s is at St Marks until middle of Feb when he is hired at St. George’s. Horses mouth.
Who takes the St. Marks job?

It makes sense seeing as Coach Wright is a Spartan alum, but could he leave St. E after one year, especially with all the returning talent they have? Interesting off-season already.

Official: Joe Wright to Saint Mark’s

Cheers,

Busch

This might be a reach...but Wilson is in the coaching tree of Dim Montero...Vinnie Scott played for Dim and coached with him....Wilson played for Vinnie at Delcastle and coached with him at St. Marks.

I wonder if the prospects of St. G playing the Sals is in the future...

Do it next year and let St. Marks get out of that contract.
