Once again, you are not going to draw sympathy for the Sals. As DE HS FB Fans we should be happy that the best D1 programs play each other for the most part. I am hoping that Dover and CR feel confident enough in their programs that they reschedule the Sals in a couple of years. I hope Cape regains the prominence that they had 2 decades ago. I wish SC would do a little more outreach. I would like to see the Sals play a couple of more Philadelphia Catholic League Schools instead of the current Maryland teams. Would love to see the Big S play Calver Hall and Loyola from Baltimore area.
Interesting side note about Loyola.. They pulled out of the MIAA
Dear Alumni & Friends of Loyola Football,
After considerable evaluation and reflection, the purpose of this letter is to update you on the progression of our football program. The first step in moving the program forward was the hiring of our new football coach and leader of the program, Anthony Zehyoue. The second involved a thoughtful and comprehensive assessment. As a result of our assessment, we have decided to pursue a temporary transition from the MIAA “A” Conference to independent status for the 2018 season.
The landscape of the MIAA “A” Conference has changed over the last decade, and our results have not been consistent with our goal to strive for excellence in all of our co-curricular programs. As the talent pool continues to rapidly expand within the MIAA “A” Conference, we have carefully considered how this affects our student-athletes in a variety of ways — most importantly, their safety.
This transition provides flexibility to build a schedule that more closely aligns with our redevelopment efforts and includes steps that lead us back to MIAA “A” play within a few years. Our independent status will provide Loyola’s student-athletes with an opportunity to develop their talents, witness success, and build upon a strong foundation that will propel them to greater heights.
Below are a few key points regarding this transition:
- With the move to an independent schedule, we will continue to schedule games vs. MIAA opponents.
- The annual Turkey Bowl will continue as we approach our 100th game and beyond.
- We will continue to hold a high academic standard at Loyola, consistent with our mission to strive for intellectual ambition along with success on the field.
As we prepare for this transition, your support and assistance will help us accomplish our collective goals. Along with Principal John Marinacci, Director of Athletics Mike Keeney, and Head Football Coach Anthony Zehyoue, I have a great sense of hope and optimism for the program going forward.
We are eager to continue our efforts to develop young men who proudly represent Loyola, and who grow in their development as both a team and a brotherhood of Dons. In doing so, we will define our own success.
Thank you for your support and for so proudly being a part of the Loyola Blakefield community.
Roll Dons Roll,
Anthony Day
President
