OT: New MD HS play-offs

proposed new play-off format has been passed and will be official Tuesday.. what are your guys thoughts?

basically its everyone makes post season. I believe top 8 in each region go to the playoffs with bottom teams in a consolation bracket. Playoffs would start one week earlier. 9 regular season games. Everyone still would play minimum of 10 and half of the teams would play 11

I think it pretty much guarantees allot of teams will have no shot of winning their last game. Might suck for some Seniors

who knows? fyi.. this is the region teams close to us are in(not current standings order).. so top 8 make winners bracket and bottom 4 go to consolation bracket.. would a 8 seed have any shot at a 1?

probably has to do with currently only the top 4 teams in pts in each region makes the play-offs. The complaint was some regions had teams not make it in that are way better than teams from weaker regions that get in. This way those teams at least get a shot. They still have to beat the better teams in their region but they get a second shot at some of them.. kinda makes sense

This is current week 9 pt standings so if the format was in effect this year the reg season would be over and 8 would play 1 and so on.. pretty interesting.. it gives an improving team like Rising Sun a shot.. Hell they did beat the 2 seed

I’m never a fan of everyone making the playoffs . A playoff berth should be something you earn.

I am on the fence.. Maryland's regional system certainly eases travel and budget but it also sets up allot of lopsided state championship games and the system doesn't always reward the best teams as it is anyway.. At least this way the better teams get a shot and not shafted because the play in a tougher region

This may be off topic but if 2 teams were not to make the playoffs. I could see them playing in a Thanksgiving Bowl game. It would mean something to the kids and their fans. The coaches like DMA and Appo or McKean against whovever...

PA allows this and people love it.. basketball and wrestling coaches not so much

just read the proposal and there is one element I really like.. Instead of playing down to a regional winner and those 4 make up the final 4 and match ups per regional winner in the semis being predetermined.. Here is the new plan and its good

They will play down to the final 2 in the regions and that will make up the final 8 teams.. Then they will reseed all 8 together based on pts regardless of region.. So the final 8 could easily have 2 top 4 seeds from same region..

This will make for far more competitive semi final and final games

so essentially the weak region teams will get bounced in the quarters instead of the semis which will make for a far more competitive final 4

I believe that Thanksgiving games aren’t allowed in DE anymore , if that’s what you’re saying .
