A friend wanted me to ask this question:

Team A goes 10-0, all against D2 teams for 40 points. Team B goes 9-0 all against D2 teams for 36 points. Both teams get 5 bonus points. Which team gets the higher seed?

I'm pretty sure it's Team B and the calculation is:

Team A: (40+5)/10 = 4.5
Team B: (36+5)/9 = 4.55

But my friend thinks it might be normalized to 10 games each as follows:

Team A: 40/10 = 4.0 : 4.0 + 5/10 = 4.5
Team B: 36/9 = 4.0 : 4.0 + 5/10 = 4.5

For a tie.

Anybody want to weigh in on which calculation is correct?

Team A

Some additional food for thought:

Does a bonus "point" always equal 1 point? Or is a bonus "point" equal to 1.0 point for a team with a 10 game schedule and equal to 1.1 points for a team with a 9 game schedule?

Team B is correct It does not get normalized it’s simple points divided by games is the index. Now try the same scenario for a team that does the same but only has 8 games ( 8 games is the minimum to qualify for post season).

C. 8x4=32+5 for 37 4.625 so team C would be seeded ahead of A and B

now that's the math now lets the talk about the practical application. One an 8 or 9 game team would have less opportunity for bonus points. Secondly to go undefeated by scheduling weak you would be hard pressed to get 5 bonus points.. See Tower Hill if they beat Friends and go 9-0 the best they can do for bonus points is 1 point. Friends on the other hand took some losses and will have at least 5 up to 8 bp's

Point being the scenerio you laid out although mathematically possible would be pretty much impossible in reallity.

Not saying you're wrong BIB (in fact I'm sure you're right), but that would mean 4 bonus points for a 8 game team equals 5 bonus points for a 10 game team.

4 * 1/8 = 0.5
5 * 1/10 = 0.5

Seems odd.

The more games you win lowers your percentages for bonus points.

my post was incomplete.. switched over to lap top so I could use calculator on phone lol (finshed above)

Shedule teams that can produce bonus points chances of going undefeated go way down.
Schedule a bunch of slappies chances for bonus points go way down.

Tower Hill possibly getting a bp from Red Lion is a gift..one I am sure they didn't expect

Take the bonus points out of it..as they are what they are called bonus points they fall where they fall

A. 4.0
B. 4.0
C. 4.0

bp's are what will seperate and yes A has to get one more than B and B one more than C but A will have 9 teams to get bp's from B 8 and C 7

A. 40+ 3 4.3
B. 36 +2 4.222
C. 32+ 1 4.125
