Article just posted in News Journal citing low player availability due to injuries and other factors. Player safety concerns were mentioned as well. Presumably because of less experienced kids having to take the field. I feel for the few seniors on the team. And also for resultant Milford's cancelled homecoming this weekend. I wonder if Milford and Smyrna would have played "kinder" if asked, with more 2s & 3s getting playing time. Maybe coaching pride wouldn't have allowed such a request. I respect that as well.

Ridiculous. Seaford has 15 kids on their whole roster and they take their ass kicking every year. Seniors should’ve been allowed to transfer if they wanted to. Woodbridge gets a transfer mid season because the kid has issues at Tech. Kids from Poly should’ve been allowed to transfer.

You can tell the Seaford players are out there because they love football. Even after the season they have had, they are still helping up opposing players, playing hard, not giving up, and keeping their heads up.

The Polytech players should be allowed to do the same.

Over/under on the amount of players Smyrna is plucking off of Polytech’s roster to play immediately? Smyrna has successfully pulled off one this season with Harp. I wonder if Smyrna will continue to exploit the leaderless DIAA this season?

"Any" kid on Poly that has not transferred once could have transferred to their home zoned public at any time they wanted to per rule.. No one was stopping them not sure of what your saying..

With all due respect to the kids on Poly's team, why would Smyrna need to snag one of their players for one game against Cape (no disrespect to Cape, either)? Get your head out, and stop hating. It's unseemly...unless, of course, you are a kid and in that case, do some homework!
BTW, any senior kid from Smyrna going to Poly would be greeted warmly for a senior walk with the Smyrna seniors. Come in uniform and join us. That's what happens when you make it about the kids, and not some "has been" (or "never was") sitting behind a keyboard. Charlie

I dont want to make it seem like I know what's going on at Poly . . because I do not. They play in a pretty physical Henlopen North. Competitive or not you are going to get beat up when you play Smyrna, Dover, SC, Sussex Tech etc.

Maybe they should drop out of conference play in football as they have done before??

Regardless... there is a ripple effect. Milford misses a game but also has an extra week of rest before they play Lake in a game with D2 playoff implications. Smyrna misses a game and depending on seeding may go 3 weeks without playing a game. Hmmmm.

They have been attempting to drop down to D2 for couple years now, but enrollment at the school continues to climb. Think Milford and Sussex Tech are below them #s wise.

I don't understand. Their roster has 40 players on it? Tough seasons are going to happen. They build character. It's not always about winning. Football is more than that. I have coached youth league teams that were 1-10 and 13-0. Sure 13-0 was more fun. I will tell you that the way you handle kids in a 1-10 season will teach them more about character and mental toughness than winning a championship ever will. It may not seem like it in the middle of it but in reflection it's absolutely priceless.

This is crazy! Numerous teams in the state have fewer players, and some are doing quite well! If any teams were to do this I would think it would be Dickinson or Seaford ( which apparently only had 15 guys last week), but they are still showing up. They can't make it through 2 more games!?!? BTW, Milford and Smyrna do lose chances to play, and Milford loses their Homecoming, but they will both receive forfeit wins which should not affect their points or seeding.

This has been a problem that has been discussed previously on this board with regards to school enrollment numbers being the sole metric between D-I and D-II. It is quite clear that Poly does not belong in D-I, they haven't for some time.
Charter actually set the standard by leaving the Blue Hen conference. They were never going to compete at the D-I level and are struggling against D-II competition. Maybe Poly needs to do the same so they can start handing out candy playoff points to softer competition.

What a clown statement Rockem
Pretty sure Dover stole the Garrett kid from Smyrna... looks like it goes both ways.
I am clown for understanding that Garrett went back to his home school? Why did he transfer in Smyrna to begin with? You do understand that Harp isn’t at Smyrna for football. He is there because of wrestling. IMHO all wrestlers should play football.

Harp lists Wilmington as his hometown in his social media.. Pictures with his "crew" are all there as well. So not sure what his deal is.. probably don't want to know

I find this post fascinating. I'll take your bet sir....

Under on Poly Kids- what's the $ line or odds on this?

Smyrna's cheating but CR just sent a player from the stands to end another kids career. COME ON MEOW

I’m on the side of Smyrna here. Kids don’t go to Polytech for football. Just don’t. They go their mainly for their education. Nothing wrong with that whatsoever. So if someone transferred from Polytech to Smyrna, where is the advantage? There is none.

FYI: Garrett is a Dover Kid. He went to elementary, middle school and 9th grade in Capital School District (Dover) schools. Transferred to Smyrna in the 10th. grade then back to Dover in the 11th and 12th.
