Bottom line, they play by a different set of rules and should not be in same class as public schools. St Thomas More last year, zero to hero. Red Lion this year zero to hero (kinda) Good coaches at private schools equals....good recruiters. Public schools can't pick and choose. They get what they get.

Sounds like a great thing for the kids of Delaware if that happens. In that situation a lot of kids would be able to use their talent to put themselves in a better educational situation without the strangle hold of DIAA. Those who want to compete at a higher level will have the option to stay at home. It is time for this state to move into the 21st century when it comes how they regulate student athletes.

It's called opportunity, if I had the chance to send my kid to a private school and get a better education plus a great athletic program, it a no brainer, I'm taking full advantage of the "opportunity ", remember it's not fair until that same opportunity knocks on your door, it is what it is. It's been going on for a long time nationally we're just slowly catching up. I understand where you're coming from though.

Tell that to Mount Pleasant and/or Glasgow

both brought in multiple new bodies, and have been doing so for years (loopholes)

Penn in 2009 & Christiana 2007 were the only non private non votech schools to win state in last decade. It gets worse when we discuss baseball & girls basketball. Votech schools pick and choose kids like private in Delaware so other than being state funded they have similar filter system

@delawaresportsjunkie, I can tell you Poly doesn't pick or choose, strictly based on immediate family that graduated from Poly and then it's a waiting list. Kids start applying in 7th & 8th grade to get in, not sure about other tech schools

Your information is skewed information. I here this all the time Tech schools have an advantage. If that is the case why was Poly 4-13, Sussex Tech 0-20, Howard 10-11? You group private and vo-Tech schools together like they are the same. You just have Sallies and Sanford as basketball power houses. Other than Howard give me a Tech state Championship in basketball? If I'm not mistaken didn't Cape and Appo just play for the baseball state championship a couple years ago? Give me a Technical state championship. Smyrna just won back to back state championships. Give me a D1 Technical state championship. WB just won D2. Tech schools are not winning Chips. Specially basketball.

There're some really good public institutions Appo, Cape & others are good examples. Middletown has good publics. Smyrna & Penn have programs with great coaching, institutional support. Football is unique, it requires more talented kids therefore in Delaware advantage goes to large public schools with the only exception sallies who has a large population. The other would be St. Marks but their football program has went down, in baseball they are king. Outside of the good publics I think the situation is highly favorable to private institutions from a resources and academic perspective.

Howard won the basketball in 2012. They ran Sanford out of the Bob in the title game.

Bunny I didn't realize Howard was a vo tech, when we played them itt was Howard career center???

Yes, they are one of the 4 schools (Delcastle, Hodgson, Howard and St. George's) that are part of the New Castle County Vo Tech a School District. Howard was part of the old City of Wilmington School District that got blown up in 1978. I am unsure what year they became aligned with the Vo tech system.

When they became part of the Vo tech system the name got changed from Howard High Shool to Howard Career Center. The latter name was changed to Howard High School of Technology in the early 1990's. No matter what people just call it "Howard."
