Talk about your out in the middle of nowhere schools.. Wonderful opportunity to take over a winless team. Nowhere to go but up.

Pembroke, NC is 88.9% American Indian

Pembroke is the tribal seat of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina, the largest state-recognized tribe east of the Mississippi River. It is the largest state-recognized tribe that does not have a reservation. The origin of the Lumbee has been disputed historically, as the people are multi-tribal. Some tribes migrating from neighboring counties and states. In the 1950s, those who identified as Native American chose the name Lumbee, after what is now known as the Lumber River.

I believe Swett's most famous alum was one of my favorite wrestlers during my pre-teen years, Chris Chavis, better known as Tatanka.

"This may come as a shock to you, but there have been Native American characters in wrestling before who were not - GASP - actually Native American. For promoters, if someone looked like they could pass as being Navajo they would simply put them in a headdress, give them some panpipe music and say 'off you go'.

This wasn't the case for Chris Chavis, though. No, he was the real deal, something that promoters such as George Scott and Vince McMahon loved. Tatanka is a descendant of the Lumbee tribe in North Carolina and grew up in areas where his heritage thankfully wasn't a problem.
