He was 2 year starter at Delaware and an all state basketball player at P.S. du Pont in 73-74. Leon served on WPD for 37 years. At like 6'7" 270lbs. he was an imposing figure. His son Leon, Jr. was an all state FB player at Howard who went on to play at Towson State.

The last time I spoke to Leon was at Frawley (2 years ago?) he was working the State Baseball Tournament.

I have seen Leon Stevenson doing his duties around the city of Wilmington. The last time I met him was at Frawley Stadium after a Blue Rocks game. We both went down the steps at the same time and talked about cars, pickup trucks and other good things what us guys always talk about. The day after we saw each other again and I had asked if he was Leon Stevenson and played at PS DuPont? It bought me back a lot of memories when I share a lot about PS DuPont. For 4 years I had coached wrestling at the Middle School (PS) and have a friend who was a custodian boss (Wayne Potts) who worked the night shift, have a great deal of respect for, we went in the history room shared yearbooks and talked about Leon Stevenson. We saw him in PS DuPont yearbooks playing football, basketball and ran track. He was an outstanding athlete. Rest in peace Leon and when tragic comes to death think about the 23rd Chapter of Psalms. God Bless You Friend.
