I normally don't pay attention to haters but I've had enough and need to vent. After reading all of the accusations about WP and the Titus Nelson transfer and now it has filtered down to other schools being mentioned like HVT, I thought I'd give my opinion. Many know that my son just completed 4 years at HVT and that I'm good friends with Coach Dooley. Well I can assure all you haters that no type of recruiting that you accuse these programs of goes on. It's the parents and kids wanting to play for winners!!! Hell I used to get on Coach Moffett for not going to middle school games and handing out HVT brochures. I did more recruiting for HVT over the last 4 years than Moffett has done his whole time at the school. As for Dooley, I know for a fact he will not even speak to a kid or parent unless they are physically in the building and they initiate the contact. I have been standing right next to him when he has received a phone call from a parent wanting their child to transfer. His pat response is I cannot and will not talk to you until you and your son are physically at the school. Coach Dooley has asked my opinion about a few of the transfers that he's gotten because he knows my son either played with those kids or I've coached them. His first question is always what kind of kid is he? He protects his program at all costs. That's why a kid that transferred from a notable MD high school left WP recently. Another program and coach that usually gets dragged thru the mud for this stuff is Caravel. I'm surprised the haters aren't screaming about the Medley transfer. Well I became friends with Coach Reed over the past 4 years and have a great deal of respect for the CA program. Coach Reed does his best to help all kids succeed. He was a huge help in my son's recruiting process. This nonsense needs to stop. If you want to accuse anyone, go to the source. The parents and the players. The 3 coaches I spoke about are good men who happen to be great football coaches, and maybe just maybe, parents and players want to play for that kind of coach. Maybe it's that simple... I challenge the haters to go up and introduce yourself to these coaches. Talk to them and ask questions. They have nothing to hide. You might just be surprised to find out they love kids and want to see they succeed. What a novel idea!!! Rant officially over. Continue with normal programming. I'll be at the Smyrna/WP scrimmage on Thursday if you'd like to discuss...

Nuk you have got to be new to the area (within the last 4 years)? I have never known Dooley to practice recruiting, but don't kid yourself or be neive. I have witnessed it (first hand) from multiple schools in the area include the other two you mention.

Been in this area my whole life and been friends with Dooley for over 30 years. I was only a part of the HVT program for the past 4 years and I never witnessed Moffett or his staff do anything close to recruit kids. As for Caravel and Coach Reed, I know there are always a lot of rumors but until proven otherwise, it's just rumors... just my opinion.

Nuk, Great post!!! I've been in this area long time also. And I agree with you 100%. But remember, the haters will keep on hatin. Dooley, Moffett, Reed and so on are good men.

I think this post has gotten sidetracked/ I truly believe the above coaches are men of great character and have the best interest of the players/ schools at heart, any coach that commits his life to teaching and mentoring our youth should be valued!! My point was that the system is in need of adjustments! I have a lot of respect for Coach Dooley he has turned his program around and is a players coach, you want to play for a guy like that, Coach Reed is a friend of mine is a man that you definitely want your son to play for! As far as any of the others I can't comment!

Transferring and "Recruiting" are new phenomenons for Delaware, but in surrounding states, it's old hat. Hopefully we get to that point so folks can stop pointing fingers and accusing folks of cheating when the notion of fairness in high school sports and education (for better or worse) becomes outdated here.

I have to agree with w/ the mobster on this-it has gotten sidetracked. And nuk- I have and will always respect your opinion but ceech is dead on....it DOES HAPPEN. What you see and know of 1 person may be quite different of what others know of that same person. And if all was on the up and up..explain why Watts had to sit a game last year??
Explain why those Baltimore to Dover transfers had to miss games???

as for WP....I am on record 2 seasons ago (before they were a winner)...as saying they were back! I watched them in a 7/7 game vs Sals and knew they were gonna be a team to contend with. And I am happy for De HS FB that they are in the picture again...its a win/win.

Yours was a good rant! But there is some questions and I understand why they are being asked.

All that said....WP will not win it all this year.....I have already said Sals are the team to beat.

And somebody mentioned transfers going into privates (like St Marks and Sallies) not getting questioned...St Marks is now in D2 with less than 50 kids in the program so where are those transfers???
Sallies gets anybody they want and has unlimited resources to do so.....so what??

Time for some football!

Can't speak about the Baltimore to Dover transfers because I don't know anything about it.

As for Watts, he didn't play the first game because DIAA had not heard his case and made a ruling at that time. He could have played and if DIAA had ruled him ineligible, WP would have had to forfeit the game. Dooley wasn't willing to take that risk and chose to let the process play out. I'm not buying what you and cheech are putting out there. Anyone can make accusations, but I've yet to see any coach or program penalized. If it were as rampant as you guys say, someone would have blown the whistle imho.

No way Sals wins it this year. I say Middletown is the slight favorite right now. If WP can get a few kids to step up on the defensive side, I'm going with back to back for them.

I was intimately involved in the Baltimore/Dover transfer issue and want to make sure the correct information regarding this case is shared. The Dover HC Dante Jones didn't bring the situation to light until camp began. At that time DIAA Kevin Charles, Capital Superintendent Mike Thomas, Dover HS Principal Evelyn Edney, AND CR AD/FB HC Mike Schoenwolf (just to be on the up and up with our crosstown rival) were all notified that we had a situation at Dover that needed to be looked into by the proper authorities.

The kids were using the Federal McKinney Vento Act for homeless students as their way in to Dover. We held both players out of competition until it could be vetted by the District as well as DIAA. That's why it took so long for those 2 to be eligible. Both were vetted completely by DIAA and Capital Schools and found to have met the criteria for MV. I can assure you or anyone else that there were no shortcuts taken in the process to determine those kids eligibility.

All the coaches - Dooley, Moffett & Reed - are good guys and do right by thier programs.

As far as recruiting goes I have seen it first hand so know it does exist at ALL schools. Don't assume it's only HC - friends, family, alumni, other coaches, etc

But in reality the biggest "recruiter" for a school is winning. Kids want to play at winners plain and simple that's why they transfer.
