its really is how one defines recruiting.... To me and this is my personal opinion.. Recruiting is offering a player something to come play a sport for your school... but that is just my personal definition.. Recruiting is a term thats been really watered down... Hell for some folks if a coach breaths on a kid then he is recruiting lol...

pretty vague poll IMO

just food for thought .. here is two scenario's fist one is not recruiting IMO second is.. I will use private schools in these scenario's

1.

Coach to parent: Hey your kid can really play have you considered (insert private school) its a great academic school with great history as well as strong support in athletics

Parent: yes but I dont think we can afford to go there

Coach: Well you should go to an open house and talk to the financial aide office as they do offer needs based aide and other plans if your son is accepted

2.

Parent: yes but I dont think we can afford to go there

Coach: Don't worry about that your Son is good enough I can pull some strings and get your financial aide approved

Your full of shit. CA financial aide gets spread out proportionately. X amount of dollars distributed for those that qualify for aide.. It really equates to 10% to 20% for each...everyone pays something
If anyone is saying different then its just a proud parent saying whatever ...which they do

1. Coach to parent: Hey your kid can really play

2. Coach to parent: Hey your kid can really play

Both of your examples demonstrate the illegality of your scenario: Coaches are forbidden by DIAA from doing exactly what DOES happen. DIAA does nothing about enforcing the rules they make. Most coaches follow the rules and take what comes to them because they have AD's that insist upon it. Some schools have AD's who watch as it happens, and one school actually has an AD/Coach who does it. Oh, a private school.

Here is the proper scenario:

Coach to parent: ..................... (crickets).

well I am not as clueless as then...and I do speak from personal experience,,, not hear say or what I think is going on

As for the guy above if your definition of recruiting is no HS coach can talk to any kid other than those enrolled at his school then the whole definition should be thrown out across the nation. as that happens everywhere...

No they don't ....read the rules.. There is no rule prohibiting a coach from talking to a kid not enrolled in his High School... there is however a rule prohibiting them form offering improper benefits to come to his or her HS..

If you read what I wrote , it was "Coach to Parent, your kid can really play....". The fall back of, "everyone does it" is a cop out. Everyone speeds so I will too? The real problem is that DIAA doesn't enforce the rules they make, but the police do fine people once in a while.
School/Coaches should be selling the academics, not out poaching kids with promises of athletic glory. The best school for proven future success is Concord High. 5 players currently in the NFL(at least last year). Coach Kosanovich didn't play any of those games.
As for your "That's shit" statement? Your just wrong. Anyone who reads your statement is just shaking there head and chuckling.

Don't reply, it only makes you look more foolish.

I can't speak of what goes on at Caravel today, but I do know that 4-5 years ago that financial aid was given to many kids based on athletic ability. I believe that the Red Lion fiasco may have changed that after seeing what it did to RL. I personally had a coach tell me that they could get any kid in as long as his grades were so so.

I was talking about kids not in High School..hence not enrolled at a different school per the rule... I didn't explain what I was trying so say well enough.. none the less... I don't even care about this subject..moving on to the games.. As well as I am way past worrying about looking foolish on here and I am not alone.. lol

Scenario: Kid in your district is known to be a great prospect. You, as the coach, hear he is considering a Private or Tech school instead of going to your district school. Coach happens upon this "prospect or parent at a game, tournament, insert anything here" You honestly think that "any" coach would not take that opportunity to sell his school and program to this family??? Even The Honorable Pope Kosanovich would have that conversation. Why not, he should sell his program! The problem is that the Public doesn't have anything to offer, that based on RR's definition, is recruiting so it's just a conversation. If you think that's not happening with Public coaches, you're fooling yourself.

I think we beat this subject to death, lets stop saddling this dead horse!! Lets talk football!
