Reeder - DE Gatorade FB POY

Totally agree. Great player on both sides of he ball.

Although he is 19 and was held back solely so he could compete against younger people in athletics, so technically his senior year was last year.

But great player!!

Who cares GSL, I couldn't begin to tell you how many 19yr olds have played high school sports. That kid is a Prime Time Player, and you can bet he'll have his day on a college field someday soon. Let's go Smyrna

They have age rules and restrictions in high school athletics and Reeder meets all the requirements to participate . I don't see the issue. He's not the 1st poster to bring it up. It's in really poor taste.

Congrats to the young man. He's a great talent.

very true its not uncommon at all today... FLA has them turning 20 their SR year.. why do you think they have so many 4 and 5 star recruits lol

He really deserves this. He is dynamite on both sides of the ball AND special teams...6 blocked kicks.

He works out with the same intensity he plays with....probably overtrains (just kidding)

I played when Troy reeder was around and seen him work out and have watched Colby play, both work extremely hard in the weight room (like a lot of HS kids) but one year in age has nothing to do with this lol what a JOKE you'd even say that GSL . Give a kid some credit, he put the time and hard work in and it paid off , like it usually does in life. Congrats on the award !

No doubt he works extremely hard but my question is this- if it's such a joke and one year doesn't matter than why not just stay with the class you started with? I'm sure he's quite intelligent so it has nothing to do with grades. I will answer my own question by saying that the one extra year does matter. Last year he was a second team all state player, which is a great accomplishment. Now he's head and shoulders above (and a year older than) everyone else he plays against. I saw him play twice this year and no doubt he's better than everyone else, but just imagine if Reggie Carroll stayed back a year.....

If Reggie Carroll stayed back a year he'd be the 2nd best back in the state behind Reeder.

What the hell does it matter? He's within the age requirements to play high school sports. Him staying back a year is no business of yours or anyone but he and his family.

I bet there are other kids playing who are 19 or almost 19.

What the hell does any of this matter? We are all grown men who spend our time predicting delaware high school football games and debating who is better and why. This is just the first time I've decided to comment, which makes me less cool (depressed) than you considering you've posted a thousand times.

I'm just commenting on something that I feel impacts fair competition, when you are having kids held back so they are older and better in athletics compared to the other kids in their class. Again, that's just my opinion and I fully respect your right to disagree with me. Just like its my right to disagree with you and say that if Reggie stayed back a year he would have been the best player in the state...again.

GSL once again your post doesn't really make sense, to say he's head and shoulders above the rest of the state is completely wrong. Like I said in my earlier post he's definitely a Prime Time Player, but there's a sophomore with the last name Knight that's just as great. The age doesn't mean a thing, and Reeder being 2nd team last season doesn't mean anything either. Nolan Henderson was awarded 2nd team all conference, and at the qb position was head and shoulders better than any other qb in the state. That selection system is completely bogus

So do you know for a fact that Reeder was held back for athletic purposes?

Even if that were true it doesn't matter. He still is young enough to participate under DIAA rules.

Like I said I just think it's in poor taste to make those comments on a page announcing him as Gatorade player of the year. Sounds like sour grapes to me.

Let's be real. A year certainly does make a difference at that age. However, it's within the rules so don't be the guy who is salty because he didn't have the forethought to do it. I wanted to start my youngest son late just because of the difference I have seen in that extra year and experienced myself (I was only 17 when I started college). The wife vetoed my plan though.

Amen gate keeper . Rules are rules. If it's within those rules, it's fair play . Congrats to the kid let's not take anything away from it
