Heard that the game has been changed from Friday 11/13 at St. Marks to the UD on Thursday 11/12 @730.....I wonder why?.....Spartans did a great job accommodating the clones in 2013.

What is the reason for the change? To play at UD is special for HS teams.
If true, I am OK with the change, These 2 teams could play at the Prices Corner Shopping Center and it would still be compelling.

That would be interesting that St. Mark's would give up the home game for UD, but I guess I can see why. It's a big rivalry and if any two schools can bring a crowd to UD, it's Sallies and St. Mark's.

With enrollment dropping like a rock , it might be that St Marks is looking for all the exposure it can get and a game at UD on a Thursday when no one else is playing fits the bill

Maybe Sparty can explain ?

I think it's a bad idea. UD is not very accommodating to the teams. The locker rooms each team is given are ridiculous, have to take all your clothes/belongings to the field, the stands will look empty, how much are they charging and who is paying? Isn't that a school night with classes Friday? Better off having the game at CA or another school, at least it will be sold out. Speaking of games at UD, del state would be better, especially going to the state finals again.Maybe St Marks needs to look at other improvements to draw students. Not everybody plays sports.

It's St. Marks home game. I am sure it is their call. This game could draw 10,000 fans....especially if both teams are in the tournament picture at the time of the game.

10,000?? What tournament picture? Why would Sals fans care if ST Marks was in the hunt for the D2 tournament and visa versa...

I guess I could see a scenario where if Sals was on the brink of getting in they could drop the L on them to a D2 team and kill their season...

Personally I dont think Sals or St M will be in jeopardy of not making the tournament regardless of the outcome of the game..

Just a quick question when was the last time Sals has not made the tournament? and How many time has that happened in the last 20 years? Just for curiosity sakes..

Ten thousand might be stretching it. If they do, then it's worth it. It would help if UD allows the teams to usethe FOOTBALL locker rooms and not CHARGE for parking, like they do for the finals.

I was one of few non-Spartans to defend St Mark's decision to play at their own field a few years ago. They did a nice job and even overcame my only objection - parking. This is the first I have heard about this.

I have been told that UD does not even give the DFRC a price break for the Blue-Gold game. Who needs them? I would go to the game wherever it is held. I'll hold my nose and go to Delaware Stadium.

The clones did not make the tournament in 2008. They were 5-5. That is the only time they have missed the tournament in BDN's 11 years.

2008 - Obama becomes prez, the Phils win the World Series and the Sals don't make the FB tournament.

I believe the date would be Thursday November 12th. I might go to watch it instead of the NFL Thursday night offering Bills vs. Jets

......just noticed the wrong date....thanks for clarifying....
I am with most- that I would go anywhere to watch this game, just curious to see why.

@ hen75- you said
"Maybe St Marks needs to look at other improvements to draw students. Not everybody plays sports."

what type of improvements might help?

the game at STM was very costly for the school, extra bleachers, extra security, etc, would be quite a bit in any budget, and I heard they broke even or lost some, so moving to UD make take pressure off the budget, school schedule, volunteers, parking, temp stands, admin, extra insurance, etc

Jawnsky. A comment was made that the game at UD would cause exposure and possibly help with bringing the numbers up are far as enrollment. Maybe some, but not enough. School Improvements, appearance along with educational tools to the non-sport playing population would help more. reaching out to that type of student. that's all i meant.

Hen..that all makes good sense, any change(s) might help. And to Carlo- I believe you are correct, the money spent to have that game at the school had to be significant.

If my memory serves me correct, didn't the Red Lion school district host a Saturday event with 3 games at UD one or two years ago???? Wasn't the cost severely expensive (one reason why it was a one and done,
Perhaps?).....my take would be the extra bleachers and extra man/woman power to run it....(which I thought was volunteer boosters) would be a hell of a lot cheaper than having to pay UD their cost for a one night event?

Actually, it was Red Clay who featured 4 Saturday games in one day at UD a few years back. They may have done in a second year but am unsure if they did it last year.

Red clay....that's it. Lol thanks Ches! But yeah, I'm all for the move...UD is a great stadium but I would just think if it was money issues, it would be the opposite.

Information is starting to filter in. It looks like the Slowskys are going to be a .500 team and that St. Marks will be a title contender. This is a great strategy by St. Marks. They can whup up on the clones in front of their biggest crowd of the season. That is a stupendous idea.

There you go again....Actually, I think the Gents will have a banner year and will be playing well into November. A number of key players return on the offense. The defense is a concern. Last year was the softest defense I had seen in recent years. I don't know if its concern on concussions or coaching (I doubt) but with players like Reeder, Whittelsey and Cathers back, I think they will get the job done.

Bum- I do not often agree with Lovey Dovey but I have to on your prognostificating........
Why do you ask.....
  1. Sallies never rebuild but reloads
  2. Biggest program in the state with unlimited resources
  3. Their Line will be the biggest in the state this year by far.....probably averaging 6'2 and 260 across. This will be huge in BDN's offense since they backfield returns less Sanzone (big loss). If they have to throw-they may be in some trouble as QB is not their strongpoint.
  4. Easier schedule leads to no less than 8-2- I see a title for them.

Jawnsky .. I just dont see it this year,,, too many teams are learning to make use of their speed and won't play ground and pound with the Sals anymore.. Sals make the tourney but doubt they make a title run.. final 4 yeah.. Chip no... JMHO

per "Resources" what do you mean.. resources to go out and get some play-makers or resources to influence calls?.. just trying to understand how resources matter.

RR...I can see why you think they are not title contenders but I look at every team from D-1 playoffs last year (excluding Spartys boys as they are in D2)....they all took a step back so that sways my thought process as well.

anyway...by resources I mean that they are unlimited in obtaining kids to their football program and all sports.....I have never thought that they or any other team have gotten calls in their benefit-officials do a nice job in DE.....

true.. D1 seems pretty wide open at this point.. we will know more when some of the scrims start... pads start popping today, correct?

Today is the day for hitting!! And you are correct on it being early and we will learn a lot more in a few weeks with scrimmages.

Week 1 has some very interesting matchups for a good start and an early look.....
Bucs v Concord
SM v NWK
CR v MT
WP v STG
Sals v Ohara

Nice! RR2 will hit CA vs Concord and Penn vs St G... would like to go to Sals V Ohara but same time as Penn vs StG.. all things being equal I would rather not deal with parking and pottys at Baynard...

RR I have agree with you , not over impressed with the Sals line averaging 6'-2" and 260 lbs. , are they quick, are the strong ? Plus the speed of the backfield is questionable. Last years Penn line was big/ strong and quick with speed in the backfield, their success was because the line dominated the line of scrimmage and RB speed . If I recall last years Middletown line averaged 5'- 10" and 200 lbs., they were quick and strong. MDP adapted his offense to the strength of his line ran a (veer). Not sure what O to run when slow line and slow backs, receivers?

What gives you that impression.? Have you been going to the 6am workouts? They have a brand new athletic performance center and I'd bet my bottom dollar they are making great use of it. I'd also bet that BDN sees that they use it.

Wow! Mobhits makes Bummy look like an optimist!! Having said that it is concisely my point. This year the Sals will face bigger, stronger, faster, quicker and more athletic opponents almost every week.

I have heard the talk that this will be .500 team for the Slowskys. So be it.

Bummy and Hits....they will be .500 just by showing up to 10 games!
