I was in town visiting my Uncle Primo so I stopped by 12th and Poplar.
Sals beat Howard in OT 79-71. Strange game. Sals looked in control in 3rd quarter but then the Wildcats go on like a 17-2 run. Tied for the first 2 minutes of OT then Vaughn takes over after Ferrante hits a big 3.
Damnedest thing on the Howard run....kid from Howard drops like 4 3's in like 90 seconds. It looked like a Walt Disney movie.
A couple of points. This year is about who can beat Sanford. Maybe Dover?? The Big S has some talent. Maybe they will get their legs the second half of season.
Friday nights game at Sanford won't be too pretty.
One more thing. Will you younger guys become officials? My God the JV game was an abomination. There were so many fouls called that a 24 minute game took an hour and 20 minutes. Great googamooga! The varsity game wasn't much better but I need to go to bed.

Upon reflection, the varsity game had 3 officials and a lot of whistles. Based on the physical nature of the game last night the officials in the varsity game were fine...they worked together and conferenced when there was an issue.
There was still too many whistles but my knowledge of basketball is pathetic.

Darnell Vaughn from Sallies is a baller. He's improving every game, I think you'll be hearing quite a bit about him when tourney time starts. Lets see how he does Friday night against Sanford
In my opinion he’s always been underrated but if you watched him play he’s one of the best fundamentally sound players in the state I pray for much success for this kids bright future
This young man is one of my all time favorite Big S guys and I go back a little bit.

As a Howard alum, gotta admit the failure to close out the game was disappointing, but Rahsaan Matthews has that young team competitive and while it might not mean much this season, the groundwork for a Wildcat resurgence is being laid.
Sallies is good though. VERY good. I get the feeling they'll be at the Bob (or the Field House? Has DIAA said anything about that yet?) in March.

I didn't know there was an issue. Is it the UD construction that might eliminate the Bob?
Rahsaan Matthews is a prime time coach. DE HS FB Coach of the year with Pencader a decade ago and now doing a great job with basketball at Howard.
He threw some innings for DelState, too. You think he can lace up the ice skates??

I'm just guessing that DIAA would want to get into the Sixers Fieldhouse, but I think the Bob is just fine construction wise.
I really hope that whenever Coach Ritter hangs up his clipboard that Rahsaan takes over as head football coach. I'm STUNNED he hasn't gotten an offer from another school yet.

Gate, Believe me..He has had offers from other schools and districts. He just hasn't taken the offers. I like him at Howard..he is still a young man.
Oh I LOVE him there. I just wonder how long he can hold out as the offensive mastermind when a head coach is what/who he should be.
You are correct. I don't see Coach Ritt hanging it up soon but you never know. Coach Matthews would have been a nice fit for St. G's but Coach Wilson was brought in at mid school year last year.
Coach Matthews would have been a perfect fit for Wm Penn FB. I like him where he is at the moment but like you I hope he gets a chance to be a HC in FB in the next few years....if that is what he wants...
