The pads start popping tonight..

7pm Caravel/ CR scrimmage at CA

any others of interest?

tomorrow 3:30 Tech/Penn scrim @ Tech
tomorrow 4pm 3 way at Delcastle w Howard and St E's

The Penn/Tech scrimmage interests me.

Thursday's scrimmage between St. France's and Middletown will be held at Dunbar High school at 6.

Delmar looked good for only having one day of contact before the scrimmage. Defense swarms and pops. Their offense doesn’t seem to have a ground and pound replacement for Brooks Parker, but lots of quick hard running smaller backs that finish their runs well. All three of their QB’s looked good, it will be interesting to see who gets the start against Cape.

Word I got was Caravel looked pretty good vs CR. DeRegis and Potter are players. Balint looked good and made some plays as well. The QB Hoffman was making some nice throws and is progressing real good. Line has some size also.

CR pretty much kept it vanilla running full back dives to the big back and swing type passes. Their QB looked decent and throws a nice ball.

Only second day in pads for both teams and CA probably had the advantage of going to Millersville camp as they looked a bit more polished. Not sure if CR does that sort of thing

I didn't attend but got this from a "reliable source" lol

St. Frances is absolutely going to destroy Middletown. They need to stop kidding themselves before they get key players hurt for big picture, a DE state championship.

yeah Swag I just don't see how they are going to protect their QB.Good Counsel couldn't and GC has a big line. I will tell you one thing if Fry goes down because of this .. heads will roll in Mtowne

From what I've heard through grapevine is that Drew Fry is currently out after surgery on back but is expected to be ready for week 1. (don't know how true that is) I agree this is not smart.

Fry is not playing. They are going with the freshman. That’s even scarier. And that’s even stupider on the coaches part! That kid hasn’t played a varsity snap and you throw him up against one of the top teams in the country?

This kid gets thrown in to the wolves. Good luck to him and Middletown, hopefully they come out healthy!

@ William penn vs Tech scrimmage William penn has decent size QB looks athletic...Tech offense has size, big And physical up front moved the ball well, defense needs to tune up some..

So you want to tell us what happened with both teams on both sides of the ball, or do you just want us to know that Tech moved the ball well???

Penns numbers look to be down this year. They had a good mix of pass and run. Tech, same a good mix of pass and run. The scrimmage was kinda short & both teams didn’t show too much... first scrimmage is usually just running a few plays getting the players back hitting. 2nd scrimmages are usually better

The Caravel scrimmage must be coming with a biased opinion. They both looked good considering they only had one day of hitting. There seems to several new kids that had an impact as well. Caravel will struggle against bigger teams with those little running backs and that suspect offensive line. The CR starting back got hurt the second series and never returned.

They only ran 2 series. Yes while they both looked decent CR didn't really impress me. Caravel gained more yards on both series. While I agree there is work to be done on their line and their backs are rather small, they seemed to be able to move the ball just fine against a very large D1 team. Also as a side note, the CR running back didn't run as hard as I imagined he would. But again this is first impressions. There is a long time before the season begins.

God bless Sallies fans. They are going to be suffering this year. MLK said "suffering has a redemptive quality". I guess that Sals fans will get their redemption in heaven because it ain't gonna happen with this timid bunch.

Bummy was driving back from a meeting and stopped by AI to watch the tri scrimmage. I stayed for about an hour before driving South. Yeah, the Sals moved the ball a bit and scored a couple times but they are so green an old Sallies fan wished me Happy St. Patty's Day.

One good thing is that their LBs and DBs were not called for unsafe tackling / helmet to helmet contact. That's bcause they missed just about every open field tackle. If AI's backs caught a pass in space they looked like Gale Sayers and Barry Sanders.

My sense is that Sals fans are looking at their first sub .500 team in the DiNardo era.

Sorry, clones. Wish I could be more positive.

...continuing a bit because my post was too short. Sallies have usually featured solid O line play... This group was totally unsyncopated.

Sals still run DiNardos antiquated offense which makes it very difficult for them when they play teams that can throw the ball and score points in bunches .

I was about to come on and say I was more impressed with the offense then I was last year. They scored most times and would’ve scored every time if they had more than 10 plays. The new running back played well and they have the best wr duo in the state. Young QB played very well also.

I had a colleague at the Delcastle/Howard/St. E tri-scrimmage, pretty much what you'd expect - St. E and Howard looked good while Delcastle did not. Howard will score in bunches if the line holds up, that's the major key.

Dunbar update: St. France's scored right before halftime to lead Middletown 27-0. Drew Fry wasn't playing on the side lines in street clothes.

After Half, St. France's pulled their 1s and are scrimmaging themselves first team O vs. first team D.

Middletown now is playing SFA back ups.

What did they get out of this scrimmage? Or the next vs. St. Andrews ? Have to question the benefit of playing either of these opponents. Hopefully no injuries tonight.

It wa a scrimmage like game. With kickoffs and punts. As far as I know no player from Middletown was hurt. One of St. France's starting lineman got injured late by one of his own teammates cutting his legs out from underneath of him. It didn't look good.

Middletowns line looked to have gained some size. Nothing too big but bigger than what they are used to having. The freshman QB did a really good job reading the defense and kept his composer given the fact he was thrown into a game against the #4 rank team in the country. Besides the fact that it was a scrimmage, and the score was stopped at 27-0, Middletown did a decent job as the game went on. I expected worse given the talent differential.

I think what they gained is how well their line play could be given what they had to go up against and did an okay job at it. Their running back scrappy, although he's small, he's a tough hard nosed nitty gritty football player with speed. They also just found out what they could be seeing when they play IMG so it shouldn't be any surprises when they arrive in Bradenton

That's a pretty accurate assessment of the game/scrimmage. The game was a huge mismatch physically but the Middletown boys showed a lot of heart out there. Yes they lost 27-0 but it wasn't as easy as the score suggest. St Frances had no huge plays on offense .They had to drive the ball to score. Middletown actually had 6-7 first downs and scored on a TD pass during the 10 play drill after halftime. The freshman qb played well completing several short passes. Offensive and defensive lines were overmatched physically but showed no fear. They brought there best every play. They are going to be a major handful to everyone they play in this state.

I think the line at Howard is the key also. They seem to have about 4 wr who are over 6 ft. I asked around and I heard they were sophomores.
So they are young but that coaching staff will get the best out of them. I think they will need to beat AI to make playoffs and I am not sure they will happen this year.

Just out of curiosity where do the kids that go to Howard come from?. Not just geographically but what rec programs do they play for?

I have to agree. A split with St. G-Hodgson to start the season would help, but that's a longshot to begin with. I was really surprised with how well AI came along last year. Either way, it's going to be Howard and AI fighting for that 1 spot coming out of Flight B.

Some of them have never played before. Not sure of the leagues but the teams are delaware ducks, newark knights, and the warriors from the wilmington league. I am not sure the warriors are around anymore.
And of course the MOT league. From middletown to howard is a long bus ride, but there are kids that do it.
I can not recall a kid from cyo ever being on a Howard team

Pretty sure the Warriors are no longer. I havent heard of the Ducks but I have seen the Knights signs out and about. Are the Titans still around?
