These two teams will renew the oldest public school rivalry in the state on Friday night. They played twice each season from 1920 thru 1948 and once each season thereafter except 2001 when a local murder investigation forced the cancellation of the game. This weeks meeting marks the 126th meeting between the teams.

Once upon a time, this was a game Young Gate wished he could watch in person. Would love to see either one or both of these teams return to competitive status.

OTS thanks for the info. 126th meeting for the neighboring schools is pretty impressive. Some Delaware high school football legends coached and played in the game . . Ron Waller, Ron Dickerson, Delino DeShields. Good stuff. I agree with Gate. Would be nice to have these programs be strong again.

Bummy has no problem with traditions and history. I have often thought about a merger of Delmar, Laurel, Seaford and Woodbridge. The new high school would be Sussex West. It would rule Delaware Football. Take the current HS's and make them middle schools. Build a nice Sussex West out on Rt. 13 around Seaford.

Nobody listens to the old bumster any more.

I am beginning to think Bummy once worked as a M&A Analyst. If not this life maybe a prior. He seems to really like mergers.

Played in a couple of those 50 years ago!

Can remember when Laurel/Seaford and Delmar and Bridgeville(Woodbridge) played on Thanksgiving. I played in maybe the last Delmar/ WB game Thanksgiving game in 1975. Thanksgiving games were eliminated because the playoffs started that week.

I think Laurel is right around the corner very young this year. Most people were thinking they would not win a game this year and right now its looking like 4 wins. Seaford... they need a a lot of help
