Well, Smyrna has hopefully gotten their UGLY game out of the way. I said in another thread that each team has at least one in the season. Props to Howard for going after Smyrna and not playing timid. They posted a template for anyone who wants to air it out and test passing game. Howard QB had tons of time on too many plays and Smyrna DBs have a hard time with tall receivers. I wouldn't go too reactionary about the game. They will bounce back and hopefully learned a thing or two in the process. This kind of game won't hold up against the top 5 teams in D1.

Do you have any insight into why they can't figure out their corners aren't good enough to play at the line and they made need some help?

I can't comment for several reasons. But I trust the staff to make adjustments.

I noticed this glaring flaw in Smyrna's D over the summer...and have said so on here numerous times.. Judy has to drop the no two way player thing.. Its DE HS football not the NCAA.. He will get away with it this year because the O is so good but going forward it will cost him, Not having Knight and Brown as DB's or LB's is just silly JMHO and yes I know he puts Brown in at safety on certain occasions but both should be regular starters on D.. If they end up losing to MT in the ship it will be this that costs them.. if they end up playing Concord it won't matter

They won by 22.. Cant win by 35 of 40 every game... Defense let up in 4th.. Watched MT play Sallies.. They dont have a shot.. Hang 70 on them easily.. Nobody om the state can keep up scoring with them..Please ..

I agree not this year..O is overwhelming ..but If they dont have a QB that can run it next year like Henderson then the D becomes more importent

I Agree.. But this year...lets be honest.. All the people on here.. Praying for a miracle.... Defense get 2 drops game over.... But next year will be alot Harder for them...

well the truth of the matter is to keep the train rolling with that O is they have to have a very smart QB.. what bothers me is they dont seem to be grooming the next man up.. yeah they can bring in a transfer but it takes a year at least to grasp it all,,its not a plug and play system,, Colleges can do it because they can offer HS kids playing in a similar system..

Middletown "won" playing its starters the whole scrimmage. Smyrna did substitute towards the end. To say they'll hang 70 on them is ridiculous. They ate some clock and had success when they were close and ahead. When behind they can't throw well enough although that's the best I've seen their QB this year and I've watched all the games. In the inevitable showdown I believe it's a shootout. No one scores 70 however.

70 against a team averaging giving up 6 points a game. 70 against the top group of db's and probably the best overall defense in the state. I want some of what you're on. That's realistic.

I have no dog in that hunt so here's my take. Both schools will score thru the air but any match up will be determined by the ground game. Smyrna has better backs, period. If it were just Knight maybe it would be a push but the ECA import tips the scales. Smyrna will RUN away with it IMO.

I agree with your assessment of the ECA influx. However, there's a lot of ball left, hsfb is played w/the heart, stranger things have happened, just ask BS/Newark 2011 senior laden with (3) D1 prospects.

The aforementioned game even started out very, very, very bad.

I'm a smyrna supporter and I think Middletown at the very least will give them a close game. MT's passing offense is nice and right now Smyrnas secondary cant even stop Howard. Scary.

I have to agree with the majority here. It really all depends on who shows up for which team. The Smyrna team from last night or the Smyrna team against Sallies. Middletowns offense can score, but what defense shows up is how well they can hang with Smyrna. The defense who was probably the best in the state last year and shut out 4 teams, or the poor play in the sallies game two days ago.

Coaching will be a factor. The play calling in the 1st qt. in for Middletown was probably one of the most questionable I've seen. Going for it on your own 10 yard line. You won't beat Smyrna like that that's for sure

I am looking forward to an MT vs Smyrna final.. Right now I have the Eagles as two TD favorites mainy because of Leddie Brown,.. MT has the better D and can score but not sure if they can run when they need to,, Smyrna can score at will on anyone and if they have to run to kill clock they can do that as well
