Too much time to kill.......just some numbers to ponder
Points For/Against
S-596 (54.2) / 178 (16.2) .....2 shutouts
M-424 (38.5) / 86 (7.8) .......4 shutouts

Common opponents: CR/WP/DELC/SALS/APPO
S-292 (58.4) / 70 (14)
M-231 (38.5) / 45 (7.5) *** odd how it is identical to season total/averages.....consistency!

This is where it gets interesting.....key games vs quality commons (Sals/WP)
S-108 (54) / 26 (13)
M-92 (30.6) / 31 (10.3)

These numbers set the lines as follows:
Based on season totals- Smyrna by 7.5
Based on common opponents- Smyrna by 13.5
Based on quality common opponents- Smyrna by 21
That gives us an average line of Smyrna by 14 pts. ( I am not saying that's how I see it)

I believe the final on the scrimmage was 34-31 Cavs and it was by all means a GAME but I will simply say this.....Middletown will have to match their intensity they displayed that day to win. And they are gonna have to score points and slow the game down. The longer they have the ball, the less Smyrna scores....its that simple.
...And as RR said- the weather could play a factor if its nasty but that would also hurt both teams.

Idk jawnsky....the one thing that both teams do really well that gets over looked because of their high powered offense is their running attacks. Both can run, Knight and Brown for Smyrna and Whitehead and Lockwood for Middletown.

agreed and that is really gonna be important, Cavs defense is better but I think the Eagles D takes a serious backseat to that "O"....they pretty good.
Scary part of playing Smyrna is that a team can dominate the Time of possession and lose. The key is dominate TOP and get points. I know that sounds stupid but Smyrna can score on any given play.

Completely agree! Middletown too is a threat on any given play. I know some in here are already claiming a Smyrna title but, I think we are all going to be in for a real treat. One thing for sure, who ever wins next Saturday won't be because they didn't earn it that's for damn sure.

I've talked down on Smyrnas defense all year and I ate my words tonight. So it will be a challenge for the Cavs. But it won't be any easier for Smyrna against Middletowns

I don't know what kind of athletes Middletown has but the Penn defense game plan from last year in the playoffs was awesome and Smyrna dead to rights. Played a lot of man coverage but they had the athletes to match up on the WRs. Only problem was they didn't switch it when Qb got hurt and Knight absolutely slaughtered them because they were still playing man which leaves you vulnerable to the running game and he absolutely gouged them with his running. If Middletown is forced to play zone they better hope they score on every drive and blitz the hell out the the Qb because that Smyrna coach knows how to get guys running free and the Qb knows how and who to throw to. Middletown can't get down early and can't rattled. If I won the toss I would take the ball and hopefully score to put pressure on Smyrna. That being said I think Smyrna 52-35 in a shootout.

You heard it here first!!
Smyrna 42
Middletown 20
after last nights performance, no way in hell Middletown can beat the Eagles!!
The Eagles ban Wagon is getting a tune up today and will heading South West to the big game!!

Here's how it looks from here...Quarterbacks - even. Defenses - even. Running backs - Duck Creek Road by a lot. The ECA import is the difference maker here. Don't fall for the MT aerial attack threat. Smyrna DB's won't see anything they haven't seen in practice. They know how to defend. Heck; the Sals picked Fry three times. Finally, scrimmage results don't mean squat. Smyrna by two TD's , maybe more.

agree with everything except D being even.. I think MT has the edge there but its not a huge edge.. not enough to make up for LB and WK.. Whitehead is a very good versatile player but not at those guys level,,JMHO.. on that note if Smyrna played some of their better players on D then it would be no contest

CR did put up four passing TD's against them. Fry did throw for over 2000 yards and 30+ TD's. I think Fry is just a little better than Wagenhoffer. Just saying...

Our D has its work cut out for them by all means, but I don't know how you can compare other games where we had big leads and rotated personnel to playing MT in a state championship. Jumping on a team by 18-24pts six minutes into a contest changes things. Don't see that happening Sat. obviously.

It's just me but don't put much weight into what happens game by game especially when I'm only familiar w/this team. A lot happens during the course of a game w/personnel and coaching that may be more important than shutouts.

I'm more concerned w/our mindset after last night's score. Would've like to have seen a much closer game going into UD. That's just me though...hopefully, it's a well played game.

Its a game of match-ups.. you cant use scores of common opponents or daisy chain stuff.. every game is different and has different match-ups plus in the moment decisions by the coaches and players

Smyrna in a easy one.

Too many weapons, including two of the best in the state, and the best QB in the state.

Look to see the coach hit the next gear on the already potent offense, although they score at will now, I still think they were on cruise control and still have more to show

no way do I see this as a easy one... Both teams seem very chippy right now so there may be some early penalties that the refs will have to get under control .. so the game may start slow.. In the end I think Smyrna has the horses to bring it home so I see it 36-28 Eagles...

Middletown 35, Smyrna 32.
Oh Ye of little faith! Truth is that I'm not sure who will win. I do think that if Smyrna loses, it will be to themselves and not to Middletown. If they limit miscues and penalties, I think they will outscore Middletown if just by two point conversions alone.

I think people are either overrating Smyrna or underrating Middletown. Most people saying Smyrna wins easily but I'm not sure how they are coming to this. They played a great game vs penn but I think they got a little lucky. They would still have won anyways but I thought penn scored on the goalline could have had a fumble return for a TD ruled incomplete and on the first possession had them on fourth and long and completed a long pass with no help defense. I think middletowns defense will show up and hold Smyrna under 32 which would give a good offense a chance.

Luck is a funny thing in football. A dropped pass here, an inch there, and the game could be much different. But even if MT defense is considered better, I'd take Smyrna offense over theirs by a greater margin.

Not saying the win was luck just that it probably could have been a better game for a longer time. Also not saying Middletown will win just that don't understand people saying Smyrna easily.

Don't think YJM was saying you thought anything was luck in the MT v Penn game just a general statement about when two teams are close luck can play a part,, a general statement about football being a game of luck and inches..

Didn't think he was. Just don't want people to think I'm making excuses for a team that got blown out.

Smryna offense starters for 4 quarters wont be stopped.... M.T defense will wear down by 4th...
